Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin 3 1 Golovkin 2 Canelo 3 Canelo 4 Canelo 5 Canelo 6 Canelo 7 Canelo 8 Golovkin 9 Golovkin 10 Golovkin 11 Golovkin 12 Golovkin 114-114 Draw Canelo won all the early rounds, as he was the effective aggressor landing all the hard punches Golovkin was too tentative. At the end of round 8 Golovkin started to back up Canelo, and from that point on the momentum shifted in the fight, and i felt Golovkin won all the remaining rounds after that. Overall close fight with 4 debatable rounds being round 1, 6, 8, 12.
Round 1 close, I gave it to GGG. 2-8 were Canelo's. 9-12 were for GGG. 115-113 Canelo. Amazing to think that one knockdown of Canelo by GGG or a point deduction would have made it a draw.
I'd really love to know how some of you gave so many rounds to GGG. The guy won maybe 1 of the first 8 rounds. Later on he didn't really win all of them either. I'd give a max of 2-3 rounds to GGG. Insane how some people think that fight was a draw or close. Canelo was clearly the winner. I think it's 2-1 GGG but GGG barely threw his jab and the pace/extra weight really hurt GGG. Golovkin just wasn't throwing anything until late.
G 1,9,10,11,12 115-113 Canelo was right. Only seemed like a blowout because it was all Canelo from 2-8. Seemed clear to me G was conserving energy for a late fight push and not wanting to exchange early so as not to get caught and possibly stopped. He was much more active and effective from 9-12.
I thought it would be more competitive than it was. It was very one-sided until GGG's mini-rally late.
I was extremely surprised by the fight. With Golovkin being in his 40s and and moving up to SMW I really thought Canelo would get him out of there and stop him. Instead I saw Canelo sweep the first 8 rounds and then Golovkin sweep the last 4. Seeinng Canelo gassing down the stretch against a 40 year old Golovkin was really eye opening about how far he's fallen. This fight really puts to bed any notion of Canelo being P4P number 1. I don't really know where he goes from here. Golovkin will get out boxed by Charlo or Andrade and will fail to stop either with a late rally. I don't really know where he goes neither.
Because there were actual debatable rounds in the fight 1, 6, 8, 12, were all close rounds. If you give Golovkin a few of those close rounds it becomes a close fight. Only 10 punches separated them in the overall punchstats, despite Golovkin not doing much in the 1st half of the fight. That goes to show that Canelo didn't do much himself after 8 rounds and Golovkin made it close, do I have any issue with Canelo winning ? No I think he has a better argument than Golovkin in regards to winning the decision, but I see nothing wrong in people having it close. Canelo won all the early rounds, but then Golovkin won the next 4 rounds or so to close the gap.
