Title Winning Versions of Buster Douglas (1990) Vs Riddick Bowe (1992)

With his great fundamentals, and long reach, douglas would try to use his two inches of reach advantage to at least partially neutralize Bowe’s ability to rush in.
But i think that Bowe could have gotten inside, where his ferocious inside game and would allow him to beat douglas down.
On the inside, he is stronger, hit harder, and probably had a better chin.

I feel that bowe with his size and tenacity, would have the edge. with the same showing he put in with Holyfield, his sustained attack finally wears down buster. I dont see Buster being able to keep RB off him

 

Douglas foozles Bowe early but gets out punched and bullied around the ring. Though Buster looks really good at first, Bowe is just too big and insistent. He ends up going down several times in the course of two middle rounds and then stopped mercifully in the 8th.

 

Bowe struggled with 80's retreads like Biggs and Tubbs which would prove quite interesting here. But then you have the World Champion Bowe who blew out other 80's retreads like Dokes and Ferguson.

The difference between Bowe and the tall heavyweights of the 80's is Bowe was a combination of that 80's Ali progeny but also the progeny of Mike Tyson where sensational knockouts stood center stage (along with great management and matchmaking).

Bowe goes for the gusto which often got him in trouble but also produced scintillating victories. There's no dog in Bowe but plenty of it in Douglas.

Douglas would have a chance of winning a decision here. Bowe could be outboxed. But I’m more inclined to thinking that Riddick barrels his way to the inside and breaks down Buster for a stoppage at some point

 

Bowe and Tyson are 2 very different fighters,,Bowe takes this one , maybe by late KO.

 

You have to favor Bowe, as he is the more proven commodity. I will say this, Douglas would not fall for Bowe's bullying tactics, Buster would give whatever dirty tactics right back as Douglas has a little bit of an underappreciated "take no ****" attitude in fights.

We are also talking about the Douglas that is motivated and doesn't fold when pressed AND is in good shape cardio wise (stars aligned Tokyo Douglas). Bowe probably brute forces his way to a win, but Douglas may be landing a lot of leather before the end if Riddick doesn't end things early.

 

I will of course choose Riddick Bowe here.
The last argument is that Tokyo Douglas beat a completely unprepared Tyson, and Riddick Bowe beat a prime Holyfield.
