Why was Golovkin so tentative at the start?

I think he was feeling Canelos electic hand sped and that made him timid.
When Canelo slowed down he started to time him and gained confidence,

Honestly think in the old school unlimited rounds Canelo would have been stopped.

Canelo carrying too much muscle on his tiny frame doesnt have the gas.
GGG was just warming up tbh

All those simply what-if opinions Serge.

What we've learned so far is that these two have granite chins. At no time in GGG's prime would he have KO'd Canelo(and vice verse).

Clenelo does indeed have a granite chin but prime GGG had titanium power and his speed and reaction times were faster and that would be the difference

He had an opportunity in 3 fights, 36 rounds in a span of over 5 years and still came nowhere close to stopping him.

When do you think was GGG's prime?

Sadly true, regarding Gennady its always a matter of "If" or "Could", he did have his chance especially being in their first fight to Go Off & do what everyone here & most thought he was capable of doing it but he instead went in there & still played it too save & passive against Canelo, by the time the second fight came around Canelo figured him out & knew he could handle whatever he bought & then some,

I mean the fact that he didn't even try this time at all & didn't even empty all of his vessels if not for himself & all his trash talking but not even for all his Adoring fans that have supported him & defended him up & down throughout all these years,

Disappointing would be an understatement because he did nada.

    It's hard to imagine because:

1- The first two fights were razor thin close
2- Golovkin chose the safe route in his prime
3- Canelo and Golovkin have each other's number and will always be difficult for each other

I like the pre Sanchez GGG but I guess up until about 2015. Clen wanted no part of a prime GGG. It took GGG looking human against Brook to imbue Jacobs with the courage to face him and even then GGG had to jump through hoops to entice him in the ring, and GGG looking human against Brook and Jacobs to imbue Clenelo with the courage to face him. At that point Clen was like.. Reynoso, it's time to unlock the padlock on the coop

It was wild to me that neither man got going immediately despite the history between them. I know GGG is old and whatnot, but taking eight rounds to get warmed up? Come on. He couldn't deal with Canelo's hand speed at all for more than half of the fight.

He saw Canelo gas out in his last fight so he tried saving his energy to stop him late

GGG is a slow starter, always has been.

The issue is, now he's shipping punishment early on and it's not so easy as building momentum and getting the KO.

Against Murata he didn't give a **** about what was coming back but we already know he respects Canelo's power and he definitely took a bit too much punishment early on

He was fearful of Canelo`s 168 power, he punches harder now than he did at 160, GGG cannot beat top super-middles, he`s got the wrong style.

A "contractual arrangement" to not try? Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound?

I suspect that when GGG was tearing everyone a new arsehole he was on the juice, one of the stipulations for his bouts with Canelo was strict drug testing, that legendary power became average, nothing special.

He has been tentative because Canelo put a hurting on him, there's no other explanation. The man who wanted big drama show and to fight Mexican style went in to box and survive mode, where was this man that destroys everything in his path!

Nevertheless I still think he won the first two bouts purely in a boxing perspective, he adapted and boxed great in the second bout despite Canelo shocking us all in the way he fought.
