Does anyone know when Middleton and Salts passed away? I can't find anything online and the most recent information I have about them is from the 64 Day Hero documentary in 1986 where they were both interviewed.
I was at Middleton gravesite roughly 15 years ago when looking for Randolphs grave, they are buried fairly near one another... I can't remember the dates, though it was probably 70s or 80s.
Thanks. It certainly wasn't the 70's because Middleton was interviewed for the 1986 64 Day Hero documentary. Damn, I didn't know they were buried near each other. Did you find Middleton's grave by accident when looking for Randolph's? I visited Turpin's grave in 2018 and didn't realise until later that his sister, Joan was buried only three or four places along the same line of the cemetery!! Fortunately, I bumped into someone who knew the Turpin family and he told me where Randolph's brother, Jackie was buried in Warwick Cemetery and I visited Jackie's grave later that same day. Here's my post about it: My Randolph Turpin day | Boxing News 24 Forum (boxingforum24.com)
that is exactly how I found it, and on it the epitaph says, if I remember right; "I am but a Whisper away..." one of the most thought provoking things & coolest things I ever read. Pretty sure it was George Middleton's that said that on it!"
I know it was a long time ago but could you describe roughly where Middleton's grave was in relation to Turpin's? I will certainly revisit Turpin's grave in the future.
Memory serving looking at Randophs grave it was too the Right, maybe 40 - 60 feet away and a few Rows behind you. It was circa 2007 for me, sometime ago now. But if my memory is wrong, go left (but sure it was right... anyhow a 40 ft circle with Randophs grave at centre, pretty sure you will find it. But I think my first memory is right & Right, lol. I had a good couple of hours there hunting sites, but yeah, good luck when you go back.
That's great, thanks. I'll find it. Once I've set my mind to find a grave, I won't give up. Especially in this case, as it will be a 220 mile round trip, like it was in 2018 and it took me 45 minutes to find Turpin's grave. What I could really do with is a Bank Holiday so I can go and do this... OH, FFS!!
