Not so much a fight, but I'm curious how they're viewed compared to one another. Who had more power? Better wins? Who accomplished more? Who had more going for them? Who is better in a H2H sense?
My take: Both had top end power, at the maximum of the scale. Hard to pick between them, maybe Briggs has a tiny bit more power but it's pretty much irrelevant. The better wins... i'd say Briggs. Liakhovic was considered the #2 behind Wlad and it was quite an upset. Morrison beat Foreman by quite a clear margin although i don't know if Foreman was even considered top5 at that point, coming off a game loss to Holyfield and wins over tomato cans otherwise. Briggs also beat Foreman although most people thought he lost. Haven't seen this one in a while. From what i remember, Foreman landed a lot of jabs while Briggs landed more power punches. Morrison also beat Ruddock.... exciting eb-and-flow fight, although i felt Ruddock was over the hill. He also beat Williams in a struggle, but like Ruddock, Williams had seen better days. All in all the're pretty close actually. I would give the edge to Morrison because the Foreman win was quite a dominant one whereas Briggs literally needed the last 10 seconds to knock out Liakhovic in a stinker and losing fight otherwise. Morrison also did better against a younger version of Foreman than Briggs did. Again it's a close call, but i like Briggs a bit better in a head to head sense. Both had suspect stamina, but i think Briggs' was better, and when it was completely **** (as it is now), at least he paces himself. On top of that, Morrison's chin is very unreliable whereas i think Briggs has a pretty good chin. Wilson did stop Briggs early in his career, but other than that, i think he showed a pretty good chin. He took a shitload of punches from Lewis before going down for the first time, and even then kept getting up. He took Liakhovic' best shot over and over, Ibragimov's best shot, etc. McCline did floor him with a perfect three punch combination but he's quite a heavy hitter himself, his KO% held back by lacking stamina, technique and confidence. Also, Briggs did a bit better against Lewis than Morrison, i think. At least Briggs staggered him at one point and really went for it. Morrison had a lot of trouble closing the gap and gave up mentally when his eye started closing... not to mention he went down from only a fraction of the punches Briggs took.
Pretty much nails it. I do think the rather bogus victory over Foreman did Briggs a disservice. The way some were telling it at the time, you'd think he was the worst fighter in the world and did nothing but survive the 12. I think Foreman clearly deserved the nod, around 8-4, but Briggs stood up to some heavy punishment and kept on firing. It's true that he did throw more power shots. I even seem to remember him shaking George up bad with a hard bodyshot late on. But because he got the dubious win, and George was still Cuddly Uncle George and so on, the criticism Briggs got was fierce, often went over-the-top and became unjustified. The KD against McCline was flashy too, Briggs got right back up and (though he didn't win a round) completed the rest of the fight without ever looking like going down again. And McCline's punching ability, if little else, has gained in reputation as time has gone on.
briggs takes it....briggs has been in give and take battles ...morrison seemed to fold when he had to take a bit
Briggs had a better chin and punched harder IMO. Plus I feel that he has a styles advantage over Morrison.
Tommy don't like jabs...never has. A good constant jab and it's like Tua all over again, not enough head movement. That's why Carl Williams did so well against him, he'd gotten himself back into top shape and his jab was hammering away.
