Just watched a thread about Valuev v Hagler and it got me thinking, could Marvin have lasted the distance against a light punching super-heavyweight like Primo?

    Light punching?
Now I know that many of Carnera’s fights were fixed and he seemed a bit of a pitter patter type of puncher but skill wise Carnera looks quite decent and was quite light on his feet.
I think a 270 pound man even not punching his weight as Carnera didn’t can potentially stop a man of 160 pounds even possessing the quality of chin Hagler had.

Poor Marvin seems to be getting chucked in against every giant going!

How on earth would Hagler survive, let alone win. Mind you David Haye managed to beat Valuev and there was 100lbs difference between the two of these fighters and Haye…who was not known for his chin strength…still got the job done.
Yes he brought heavyweight power with him but he was fighting a guy who made even SHWs look small. I haven’t worked it out mathematically properly, just a rough estimate using body weight ratio as opposed to just knocking off 100lbs. So roughly Haye vs Valuev was the equivalent of a 210 heavyweight fighting a WW! How Haye pulled it off I don’t know.

But the Hagler/ Carnera fight becomes even more absurd…it would be like a flyweight fighting a LHW…and a large LHW at that! I can’t see how Hagler…as great as he was could pull it off.

And as for Hagler vs Valuev…
Yesterday I went on about wolverines and bears with a honey badger thrown into the mix in what was a tongue in cheek post…but being serious, That’s like David vs Goliath…

But didn’t David win that…hmm back to the drawing board haha!

Loughran, a light heavy without terrific strength or power went fifteen. I’d say If Hagler fought to survive sure. Primo would win but I can see Hagler avoiding heavy punishment.

My money is on the Golden Girl. She would’ve tamed George over 15 rounds.

Bea Arthur, on the other hand, would’ve chewed up and spat out turn buckle munching Steele in just 4 stanzas.

Thank you for introducing some sanity into this thread. And thank you for being a friend.

If Marvin's whole game plan was designed for survival against Primo, then yes, he could probably last 15 rounds, but he'd lose.
