We have all tried watching fights that ended up being so awful you simply couldn't muster the strength to finish them. What are yours? I'll start. Don Jordan-Virgil Akers. Horrific. Poorly fought, bad meshing of styles, such as they had them, and based on a hunch, I wiki'd the fighters later and found they had mob connections. Explains rather a lot about the non-effort I saw. It went 15, I made it through 9. Yours?
I watched Griffith-Rodriguez 1 to 4 back to back and managed to make my way through all 60 rounds so those fights don’t count but I still feel slightly resentful. I had high hopes going in as well…
Bivol v Canelo. I did 7 rounds. The Mosley v Oscar fights. I watched them when they happened but I generally cannot do more than a couple rounds rewatching them.
Problem I have with bad fights it's like watching a bad film if I make it through the first 20mins or so I will watch it until the end, but obviously would never watch it again fight or film Few fights spring to mind watching on UK TV Funso Banjo v Hughroy Currie it was awful, truly awful so bad they just showed snippets of rounds and said after it shows how far British HW boxing had fallen was around mid 80's. Johnny Nelson v Carlos De Leon CW title fight a stinker I was at a party and it was on music playing but me and a mate asked to watch it no sound, we ended up talking to each other walked in out kitchen etc get drinks, oh man you couldn't pay me to watch it again. Two involving Henry Akinwande back to back v Scott Welch again it was hard to watch the screen, nothing happening Akinwande throwing little, Welch even less and of course next fightwhen HA got DQ against Lennox Lewis. He was scared, froze and the ref Mills Lane did everyone a favour throwing him out 5th round!
I have of course watched what can be found of Ketchel v Papke 4 on YouTube - but if all 20 rounds were there, I would probably find it very difficult to sit through the whole thing, from start to finish.
If I watch a fight and it's boring and there's little action, I will stop watching after 2-3 rounds, if it's a PPV undercard, I'll turn the volume down and check back from time to time on what round it is and when the fights over. Usually you get this between 2 cautious counter punchers with little power in each hand.
DLH vs Whitaker was pretty awful. When Oscar did that little dance after missing every punch he threw I was embarrassed for him.
The last 2 fights I had to pull the plug on was Evander Holyfield v Fres Oquendo (I made it to the 4th round) and Robin Reid v Sugarboy Malinga (only made it to 3).
Johnny Nelson should have been given the Nobel Prize for medicine for curing insomnia. Whoever nicknamed him “The Entertainer” had quite the sense of humor. It’s like calling a 350-pound guy “Tiny.”
