    Playing the political game is part of the selection process. I think it is vital to have as many pioneers as possible go in. So you might rightly counter that Welsh falls into that bracket.


    I have gambled that in years to come if Welsh does not make it this time, his name will be on future ballots, but this will be McAuliffe's only chance of getting in the HOF.

    I haven’t voted on this one because I guess I no longer understand the exercise if Duran isn’t on the lightweight list.

    The problem is, for me, we’re now voting blind. I might have voted for Armstrong at featherweight had I known he wasn’t going to be included at his other weights (I’d include him at lightweight) … but I don’t think it’s fair to boot a more deserving (in my mind) featherweight to include him at a weight where I didn’t think he makes the cut.

    Not seeing Roberto Duran, who was maybe the most dominant 135 of all time, on the list at lightweight is completely baffling. I wouldn’t have him as a top seven at welter and I don’t want to leave off a more deserving welterweight to vote him in at that weight.

    (And how do I know he’s going to be included at welter? Maybe he’ll be at middle or junior middle when we get to the junior/super divisions. So when I’m making selections at one weight now I’m having to guess where the absent, deserving fighters may show up in the future. Which is, of course, impossible.)

    So for now I’m not inclined to vote since I just don’t understand it anymore.
