AJs chin has always been very fragile. I think a power punch half of what Joyce hit Parker with would be a sleeper for him.

The strength of his chin is also magnified by his other extraordinary quality - insane levels of stamina.

Who's gonna throw power punch after power punch when they know they'll need to conserve energy for the championship rounds because they're facing a relentless wrecking ball? Parker actually got it right, power pot shots and hope to find that chin's threshold while keeping something back in case that threshold was too high.

It was. And he still got stopped for the first time in his pro career.

Wilder might just have the power to break through that threshold with a single blow, but Joshua? The same Joshua whose hail Mary right hand bounced off Ruiz's chin not 20 seconds after he'd floored him? The same Joshua who has the aerobic capacity of an asthmatic mouse and by his own admission 'isn't a 12-round fighter'?

Maybe Joshua 1.0 would have has a chance because he would have poured it on early and has decent power which may have stopped the Juggernaut in his tracks with hell for leather combinations (like Marciano).

But this version of Joshua? Too mentally broken, too prone to gassing, too vulnerable to being buzzed himself and, while heavy-handed, lacks one-punch KO power.

To beat Joyce you have to outbox him. Uysk and Fury...

    Hold on there.
    15 fights over 5 years.
    74 rounds.
Most guys could not even really test him.

There is no way to know if he is on the level of maybe the GOAT chin.

It's clearly not been tested to anything like the extent that McCall's was.

more generally, I did find the sight of a 37 year old fighter leading with his chin to be more than a little problematic, I hope it doesn't catch up with him later.

Elite slow-fast speed fighters typically have much denser bones and obviously thicker craniums too.

Elite slow-fast speed fighters are typically some of the most formidable, fittest, toughest, and best punchers in the history of the sport

    Joyce 15-0 KO 93%
    Foreman 76-5 KO 83%
    Vitali 45-2 KO 87%
    Marciano 49-0 KO 87%
    GGG 42-2-1 KO 82%
    Monzon 87-3-9-1 KO 59%
    Froch 33-2 KO 68%
    Hrgovic 15-0 KO 80%

Combined record of 362 wins and just 13 losses and 4 of those losses occurred after the age of 40 when they were shot and their slow-fast speed was greatly diminished, one was a straight robbery, one was due to a serious injury, and one was due to a terrible cut

The only one of them who has suffered a legitimate stoppage defeat is Foreman and that was against the joint HW GOAT Ali and Foreman was gassed when he got stopped

Vitali was stopped on a bad injury and on a terrible cut which is pretty much the only way you can stop elite slow-fast speed operators

Joyce never been down as a pro
Foreman been down x 4 IIRC but two were due to exhaustion
    Vitali never down
Marciano down twice but both times to ATG punching ATGs
    GGG never been down
Monzon was dropped twice in 100 fights
    Froch been dropped twice
Hrgovic been down once but it was a back of the mind/cuff you over shot as he was standing on a slippery part of the canvas

    Slow-fast speed>>

Interesting theory and really good post. I can't disagree with any of this.

    Joyce has a great chin

but he hasn't had it tested against an atg puncher
    or any elite fighter
so we can't call it an atg chin

    Parker failed to KO Cojanu
Cojanu basically said he had no power
Parker's power disappeared at top level
his best KO might be an ageing Dimitrenko

George Chuvalo probably had the best tested chin of all time at heavyweights

Parker failed to KO Junior Fa
who was wiped out by an ancient fat third rate Lucas Browne a few fight later

taking Parker's best shots isn't actually an all time astonishing feat

    true

in the last few months I have seen both Fury and Usyk described as the GOAT

I have heard it repeated Wilder the hardest puncher ever

I have seen it said Dillian Whyte (up to the Fury fight) the best ever contender to not fight for the title!

    LOL

Joyce goes OK....But he is 37 had 15 Fights and took his time to beat Parker who I would not rate in anyones top 30 Heavyweights .....Now Joyce is beating Prime Foreman and Tyson for God sake.....It's almost Laughable.!!!!

Exactly this ! Joyce is known for his engine, toughness and good chin and his chin looked remarkable last night against Parker especially for being 37 years old, however there are some far bigger punchers out there as well as the fact Parker came in at his heaviest ever which was a mistake imo. You can not stand in front of Joyce and just expect to potshot away at him whilst retreating onto the ropes,to beat a fighter like Joyce with god given attributes you need to use a lot of movement, mobility and ring iq. Basically exactly what Usyk did to Joyce in the WSSB,at this time there is probably only Usyk and Fury with the skill set to do this however there are some punchers like Wilder etc who might fancy cracking that chin as well as Joshua who was able to stop him in the amateurs. Wilder v Joyce and Joshua v Joyce would be two great match ups imo .

Nothing wrong with AJ chin. He took huge shots of Klitscho, as well as huge counter left from Whyte, and he stayed on his feet. The same hook send Iron chinned guy like Chisora in the shadow realm.
Ruiz KD and loss was due to the temple shot that concussed him, and he lost his legs after that.
If his chin was that bad Usyk would have at least KD him.
Same Usyk that KO Bellew in a division below. Going into HW, his power surely improved.

Well done to Joyce…What a monster of a man he is. I have to admit I didn’t think there would be a KO in this one. I thought it would be a Split decision fight because I expected Parker to come in lighter and quicker, fighting at distance, hitting and moving.
Going toe toe with Joyce was a risky strategy that ultimately didn’t work.
But kudos to both fighters for putting on a great show.

What a beauty prime Wlad against Joyce would have been.
Straight right and left hook couldn't have missed
