How Would Holyfield Have Done, Against PRIME Jersey Joe Walcott?

Great match up. I think Jersey Joe Walcott's footwork and timing was better than Evander Holyfield's however Holyfield's speed ,combination punching and stamina could be advantage for him over Walcott and if he fatigues in the later rounds he's in danger. I think it's a tough call.

I would favor Holyfield but I can certainly see how Walcott’s tricky style and boxing skills would give Evander a hard fight.

 

You have tormented the definition of woke in order to get in a political dig that is wholly irrelevant to the question of rule set or boxing. Which only can alienate those who disagree with your negative definition of a whole movement...

Holyfield without steroids I would favor slightly.
With his PEDs, he is very likely to win.

 

Walcott has all the tools to outbox Evander, it's such a close matchup but if forced I'd pick Holyfield to maybe outwork him. If Jersey Joe has the power to wobble Evander then I think he takes it.

 

Yep! That is the main question for me, Walcott cracked a bit harder than he's generally given credit for, but on the other hand Evander's defense was considerably better than usually regarded - he was extremely adept at taking power off shots by rolling with them.

However, I will always maintain that Holyfield's chin is not quite as great as it's made out to be (this is coming from a great fan). Whenever he's been hit with a really big shot that he's not turning with, he seems to get hurt. George Foreman said it best when he said EH was defensively dynamic, he rolls with shots (one of Evander's greatest strengths, along with his storied warrior heart). Have you ever seen Holy made to run face-first into a shot & not be hurt? I've never seen him hit full-on while in mid-swing, like the shot he landed on Tyson that made Mike wobble back towards the ropes (just before the ref stopped their first fight in the 11th).

When I think about how Toney smacked Evander around (I know he was old), it's seems Walcott, with his far greater punching power & equal boxing ability, has an excellent chance to do the same.

 

Let’s be fair to Jersey Joe it has to be limited to Carlos Deleon and earlier. Holyfield proven himself against Muhammad Qawi but was still relatively green against all time cagey great Jersey Joe Walcott!. Sign me up.



Imagine if the relatively ever young jersey Joe had the benefit of today’s medical science!?

 

Walcott is tricky for everyone

 

Walcott is definitely tricky for a Boxer Puncher, but I'll go with Holyfield in this, by Unanimous decision, as Walcott's tricky style didn't always go over well with the Judges.

 

Pretty even matchup. I have them ranked pretty close. If it’s a 12 rounder I can def see Walcott taking a decision. The longer it goes the more likely he is to make a mistake. Then again I’m not so sure how Evander would do late rounds. Evander had problems with cute boxers. For as good as he was he preferred to counter aggressive fighters something I wouldn’t consider JJW.

 

These guys would have a trilogy and go 1-1-1. I can see Holy outworking Walcott, I can see Walcott frustrating Holyfield, I can see both guys dropping each other. Im thinking in a one off type fight Holyfield wins a majority decision with several rounds that could go either way

 

He would have knocked out Joe clean.
