I don't think there should be a rematch between Williams and Margarito ... Williams will just beat him again ... there wasn't anything Margarito couldve done.
What proper adjustments? Cotto fought as well as he could have, he just lacks the power to hurt Margarito and he is not going to develop that at this point. He also lacks the chin and ability to absorb the kind of punishment that Margarito will put on him through his constant pressure and constant punching. He won't be able to develope that at this point either. Cotto fought very well he landed clean punches and he fought the way he wanted to fight. Margorito is just a more effective puncher. All night long all we heard from the comentators was how Cotto was landing all the effective punches but that was simply not true. He landed punches that looked good but were causing no damage. That's not effective. I saw Margorito landing the effective punches even though they were not as pretty they got the job done. And results are more important than looks.
Margo need to take care of business with Paul Williams first and stay the hell away from a fight with DLH. After williams i'd love to see this rematch!!!
Untrue. If He worked on some movement. Boxed away 6 rounds or 7. Kept his stamina going and was able to move constantly. He would have won. This isn't rocket science. It is completely reasonable. He just needs to not get gassed which, although was not a primary reason for his loss DID matter in the end. Trust me. I can tell. So, a little more head movement/defense, a little more stamina. That would spark a very interesting rematch.
You have to understand, in the fight Saturday, it was not as if Cotto doesn't have the answers for AM, or that he doesn't have the skill to implement those answers, he quit simply ran out of gas, while drinking blood. AM did nothing different throughout the fight, nothing Cotto was not prepared for, it was Cotto who changed his style, as a result of getting tired. Cotto has all the skill needed to win against AM in a rematch, even lopsided. AM can not fight any different, any better, based on what I have seen. Cotto, however, can. A little more body work early would equal a much more exhausted AM late. A shoulder into AM on the way in would disrupt his game plan. Look. AM has lost before, he Can gain. Good fighters, both are good fighters, no doubt, but I like Cottos chances in a Rematch.
I disagree ... I think Cotto can make alot of adjustments ... Its not about power ... its about gaining points and switching up your fight plan ... Clinch, don't move as much, double up the jab, punch to the body more, follow through with something after you land a ****ing punch. There's alot more Cotto could do ... he couldve closed the distance between he and Margarito and tried to push him backwards ... not trying to hurt him but trying to make him back up. Take 1/2 a step back and shot that right hand right up the middle ... step to the side and hook his ass to the body.
Snapshot, rounds 1-6 Snapshot shot rounds 7-11 Compare and contrast Did AM change his style in 7-11 versus 1-6...or was in Cotto who changed his style? If Cotto could execute his 1-6 gameplan through rounds 7-12...who wins, lopsided? What happened in Round 10 when Cotto again went back to that game-plan? Cotto can win this fight...no doubt. Rematch. Rubbermatch. Legends.
margarito will have the advantage going into the rematch but cotto would be more hungrier and more determined
Cotto wasn't getting beat down the whole fight ... he was fighting back and he won some rounds ... I doubt if he thought about losing the fight, during the fight, and I doubt if he thought that he was behind during the fight. And i'm not sure if Cotto couldn't have knocked Margarito out given different circumstances.
No "thinking" - I know Cotto can do it. Any non-biased fan knows he can do it. Just watch the original fight. It was not as though he (Cotto) was being pummled..ever. It was not as if he did not have the answers...rather, it was AM who didn't have the answers. Both are great fighters, Cotto ran out of gas, THIS IS NOT AM FAULT, but, still, it shows the skill level is there for Cotto to win a lopsided rematch.
No rematch for now, Cotto needs some time off then an easy fight to get some confidence back. Margarito can go for a rematch with Williams till Cotto is ready or more options become available.
