No one is KOing Margarito at 147 with head shots. If anything, Hearns would have to fight the urge to trade (which would end in him losing).
Margo has a great chin but Hearns is an ATG with ATG true one punch power. I could see Hearns stopping Margo from accumalation.
I am not sure Hearns wins this. Rewatch Haggler - Hearns. You will see what relentless pressure did to Hearns.
duran is a much smaller version of margarito and he beat leonard in his prime. Margarito would stop duran not as impressively as hearns did but he stops him late. At this moment margarito may have the best chin i ever saw. Williams, Cintron(2xs) and cotto hit him with hundreds of quality punches. The man was not fazed. It's time that all give margarito his due.
I would pick Hearns based on the Long range punching power as well as boxing skills. He was like PW with more accuracy and power. However, I Hearns could not knock AM out in 6 rnds what would happen? I would say MArgo would win.
Add to this that Tommy Hearns, WAY past his prime and fighting at 175 scored a clear UD over the undefeated Virgil Hill, and I just cannot imagine anyone picking Tony in this match up. Margo is VERY high on my list of current favorites, just as he was BEFORE the Cotto fight, but let's have a little reality check here please!
Margo won't win, but I have a hunch Hearns won't get a KO here. You know Hearns, the guy is a thinking fighter. He knows that it's much better to use his reach and superior skills to outpoint Margo. He'll be the "Motor City Cobra" than the "Hitman" on this night. And I believe Margo's chin is legit. I mean, it's enough to last an entire bombing for 12 rounds.
