I'm a huge Wlad Klitschko fan and I think he's at the end of his rope ... I think that he's done alot in the sport but he doesn't seem like the same guy he was a when he beat Chris Bryd for the second time or even going back to when he beat Samuel Peter.
I noticed that too, I think it might just have been because Thompson was fairly awkward and hard to hit cleanly. When he actually decided to throw power punches against Ibrgimov they looked quite strong.
I have the same feeling but was unsure whether he was intentionally holding back lately as he feared counters.
Im a Wladimir fan but I don't think he lost any punching power he is just not throwing enough punches, that's all.
This thread will be bumped when he decapitates the next traditional, non southpaw, non scared fighter he fights.
i really don't know as i didn't watch his last fight as his fight with sultan completely put my ass to sleep but from the comments that are being made about him HE NEEDS TO WAKE UP
It's hard to gauge because: -The last year he often seems to tie his man up after landing a shot, which pretty much reduces his KO's to one-punch KO's.... and even great punchers like Tyson, Lewis and Marciano had few of those in their entire careers... for instance, on the few occasions he threw a right hand or left hook on Ibragimov, he immediately tied him up. The one time he did follow up with punches he arguably knocked him down, only held up by the ropes -His last opponents have been rather durable. Brewster has an iron chin and even when he went full-out in their first fight, it took 4 rounds of hard combinations landing flush to finally knock him down. Ibragimov and Thompson have never been stopped before. Sultan was down against Austin, but got up and recovered well, and took Briggs' best shot a few times without trouble.... remember that Briggs knocked out Liakhovic with one or two punches, who in turn took Brewsters best shots. Despite that, he did knock out Thompson and stop Brewster. Austin was blown out by a quadruple left hook, the first big punch connecting. -He seems to favor speed over power a bit more than he used to. Against Brewster he threw 60 punches a round without showing any signs of tiring (yes, his mouth was open but it always is) and against Thompson he threw a lot of powershots as well, retaining his power into the 11th. -Thompson and Ibragimov are both akward southpaws.... the latter fought backing up from fetal position almost the entire fight and the former was in a turtle shell from round 4 on. That certainly makes it harder to look impressive. My gut feeling does say he declined a bit, but when considering the above points, it could be because his opposition isn't easy to look good against. Who ever looked good against Thompson and Ibragimov?
Thanks for your detailed post. :good Well, as for who looked good against them ... did they fight anyone who was really good and ready to get it on? :blood
and I think you are mistake Chris Byrd wasnt the same guy that fought for example Andrew Golota he almost took every punch that Klitschko threw
I think Wladimir has not that good counter punching skills. In the Thompson fight he was alway under pressure and couldn't get in his more comfortable offensive stance. His brother on the other hand was/ is an excellent counter puncher.
OK, I know this has nothing to do with the topic but I have to remind you that Brock got up from that knockdown (which was a pretty amazing thing itself). And that leads to a question: has Wladimir Klitschko ever knocked anyone unconscious? Like Brock knocked out Zuri Lawrence (yeah, I know).
It's you. Thompson has a good chin, you might want to consider and credit that instead of assuming Wladimir lost power.
