That's the issue, there just isn't enough data. Whilst I suspect he does clear out the division and prove his ATG standing. He needs to actually fight the fights.

Usyk and Joshua for obvious reasons.
But definitely Joyce too, an unbeaten Olympian who is actually older than Fury. Even Andy Ruiz Jr. is making himself relevant again.

There is so much meat left on the bone, only a child would leave table, and that's without even discussing the next generation coming through.

He might have extraordinary ATG potential, but his resume is so thin you have to give the benefit of the doubt to the men who have been there and done it, even if I think size ultimately matters.

Fury is beatable. But, save a freak occurrence, he's not likely going to be an easy night for any heavyweight in history - quite probably the toughest of nights for most of them.

 

I agree, he needs to be inspired and the bigger the danger the more on song he is likely to be. The dehumanisation of Wilder in the rematch was an absolute clinic no matter what one thinks of Wilder. He was still shaking off the rust in the first fight (which in all reality he won anyway) and went close to being stopped. Man did he come in prepared for that rematch tho. Made Wilder, admittedly lacking in skill, look like a rank amateur.

A Usyk match would answer a lot of questions for both of them. How does Fury handle a smaller super skilled durable guy who really knows how to win? How does Usyk handle immense size and skill?

It's a mouth watering matchup and it has the potential to be a very very important fight historically for both. It's not impossible that both could come out with their standing raised. For me it's one of the most important fights for many years.

 

George Foreman could probably come back out of retirement and beat Tyson Fury.

 

Prime for prime, both men on their best night, I would pick...

Ali, Foreman, Lennox, and Vitali to beat Fury.

50-50: Liston, Holmes, Mike, Wlad,

Very decent-chance underdogs:

Bowe, Louis, Golota, Holyfield,, Marciano, Dempsey, Frazier.

 

So a legit ATG then, if you're in that league there's no other explanation for him.

His resume just doesn't shout out ATG but something tells you that his combination of size & skills would be hard to overcome for any fighter in history.

Lennox Lewis, Larry Holmes, Ali, Mike Tyson, are the ones I feel could do it.
If I had had to pick one for certain I'd say Lennox.

 

But then you think of how much Lewis struggled against Vitali Klitschko, yes he was past his prime but I have a feeling Lewis would have always had difficulties with elusive fighters bigger than himself.

 

Maybe, but if anyone can bring a big guy down it would be Lennox imo.
