This is good information. Conn at 168 pounds staggered Joe Louis and was in the lead until he tried to take Louis out late. Charles probably could out box Joe Louis, but he would need to fight smart to beat him.
In their primes, I'll go with Joe Louis by Unanimous Decision. If they rematch, Joe stops Ezzard. (IMHO, of course.)
Ezzard charles would always be a hard opponent for Louis ( or most champions ) to beat. But he wouldn’t be able to fight a younger Louis in the same WAY that he did the older version. The Louis of 1940 had much faster hands, more power and more accuracy, and Charles would be foolish to stand in front of him the way he did in 1950
Charles boxes smartly as a young Louis would, maybe even wins a round or two but inevitably gets KO'd by 7-8
I really hope not! Your kidding, but even if they believe Mini-Me meets Joe Louis, let a thousand sincere idiocies (sic) bloom!
Charles at 170ish vs Joe Louis at his peak weight of somewhere between 205lbs and 208lbs IMO the best light heavy of all time vs the greatest (accurate and beautiful too)combination punching Heavyweight ever. I can see Charles outboxing Louis at times and making him look clumsy too but Charles knows better than anyone not to slug it out with his hero. In like to see Ezzard Mack Charles see the final bell but it's just as likely the Bomber would catch him between round 12 and 15. In the epic 1st fight between Louis and Conn the champion came in under 200lbs so the weight discrepancy didn't look to bad and he regretted it, looking sluggish at times.
I'm glad you posted this .. an old, inactive Louis still managed to bust up Charles face ... a prime Louis stops him in five or six ...
They did box a three round exhibition in 1943. Louis pronounced Charles "a real good boy with the gloves on."
