Hearing a bright young prospect turned up to sparring another top fighter in his division with a huge entourage and got his world shook up in a big big way.
Epic is a good choice of words. I thought Joyce's win against Daniel Dubois was a tremendous performance & so was this one against Joe Parker. He fights at a steady pace that is just enough for the other guy not to be comfortable fighting at. And he's so big & strong. Colossal performance from Joyce. I'd have him third best H/W in the world behind Lineal champ Fury & Alphabet champ Usyk. You'd have to give AJ a chance against him with his punching power but if he doesn't get it done early Joyce rolls over the top of him. Probably by the middle rounds. Tremendous grit & courage from Joe Parker. He looked gone as early as the third but managed to last until the 11th & stole a couple of rounds late on my scorecard. He's still the H/W King from this part of the world. Would like to see Justis Huni fast tracked to challenge him for that title in a few fights from now.
Why even bother posting this? If you know for sure, then whats the problem? If you 'cant say' because it may upset someone, then why encourage others to discover it?
Hmmm. This is a mystery the Stifler's Mum thread needs to solve. For the sake of Australian boxing. I can only speculate. Which "bright young prospect"/s have "huge entourage"/s? Presumably one on decent coin. So that brings Nikita Tszyu, maybe Liam Paro or even Slick Willie Wilson into the frame. I'd throw Brock Jarvis in there as well. Sam Goodman also. Then we need to have a think about who those fighters are likely to be sparring. Again, I'm speculating b/c I don't know. Nikita Tszyu against Dennis Hogan maybe? Could certainly see Dennis outboxing young Tszyu but shaking up his world? Unlikely. Liam Paro should be sparring with Stevie Spark up there in Queensland. Spark has a fight with an American southpaw upcoming & packs a punch. Haven't heard anything about them sparring though. Both Slick Willie Wilson & Brock Jarvis have questionable chins so wouldn't be surprised if it was one of them. Jarvis was supposed to be sparring Darragh Foley. Sam Goodman is another that comes to mind. And he does have a big entourage. I think we're going to need more clues in order to solve it. Just hope it wasn't our man Justis. He sparred with Frank Sanchez in the US this week.
Was my 1st thought. (my only one actually). Have serious doubts on his durability. Find it hard to believe he'd have a huge entourage though. But who knows?
I've never seen Huni hurt in a real fight & I have seen him hit cleanly & hard by very good punchers, including Jalolov. It may well be someone closer to home although he's likely to have a few with him overseas & did do one sparring session with Frank Sanchez this week. If everything went well, we might have expected a few more. Maybe there will be. Could just as easily be someone closer to home. I think we can rule Liam Wilson out b/c he doesn't have a fight scheduled but there's a lot of domestic action occurring this month & in November so there would be a lot of hard sparring going on.
I have, but I reckon in the H/W division there would be a few blokes taking a tumble from time to time. It appeared to be a low-key session without much intensity & he wasn't right on the day. I factor it into my overall assessment of Huni but at this stage, I wouldn't consider it conclusive proof of anything. If nothing else, it's expectation managed me a bit but I still hold high hopes for the kid. Returning from the US unscathed but with valuable sparring experience under his belt is his current challenge so hopefully that occurs & he's right for his next engagement in early November.
