Max Baer chops down towering fraud Primo Carnera

What have you accomplished in your life to call a HW champion "fraud"?

 

I mean, he is a literal fraud in the most extreme sense, he is known purely for a sport in which he was banned in competing from certain areas for fixing fights. It's crazy to me that people are willing to rate a guy who fixed fights. Can you imagine if it came out that Fury had fixed fights before?

 

The same allegation could be raised against a lot of other top fighters of that era, but for some reason it never is.

 

Most fighters at the beginning of their careers have padded records in some ways. Do you find that satement controversial? You shouldn't.

Joe Gans participated in a fixed fight. Should we stop rating him because of that?

 

It's likely because Primo looked horrible on camera and is from a country where the Italian Mob had the most power

His lack of skills and nation of origin make his fraudulence so obvious that most people feel compelled to call it out.

Hearing fighters called bums usually gets my hackles up.
For all of Carnera's limitations as a boxer, the man never lacked courage.
The mob, his manager and promoters deserve to be called bum's but he was an innocent party

You are completely getting the wrong end of the stick here.

Carnera was controlled by the Irish mob, and they were very much an American institution.

His Italian nationality had nothing to do with it.

As for how he looks on film, he is clearly a lot more technically sound than Baer.
