No he's not. Let me back up the claim that Primo didn't know how to box.

At this point, he has the outside foot on Baer for three seconds but does absolutely nothing with it, he actually steps inside (giving him the inferior position) before he decides to throw a punch.

13 seconds later, Primo once again achieves the superior foot positioning. However, he does nothing with it, and Baer, possessing boxing knowledge, knows to get his foot on the outside before he throws his punch. He explodes quickly to the outside and throws a punch:

A minute later, Carnera and Baer have an even position. However, Baer tricks Carnera with a jab to move Carnera in front of his right hand. Rather than try to circle to Baer's left or move back, Carnera takes a fighting position, because he thinks he's in an equal position still. He pays a heavy price for his ignorance this time, and Baer unleashes a devastating right hand which causes a knockdown and leads to a knockdown shortly after.

None of this really proves your point to be honest.

You can study footage of almost any fighter and find points where they did something technically incorrect, because guess what, there is another guy in the ring trying to take their head off.

Even if your argument held water, it is going to be far easier to find places where Baer does things that are technically incorrect, because he basically threw the book out of the window.

Finally there are many fighters with technically unorthodox styles, who still understand the fundamentals of the game very well.

They just adopt the style that works for them.

I mean did Ali fight with the style that he did because he didn't know how to box?

Did Roy Jones?

 

I'm literally using examples from the first round of the fight between the two fighters you're comparing, Baer was clearly much better in terms of technique. Punches from bizarre angles aren't inherently flawed. Baer does keep his hands too low vs a much taller opponent, and this leads to him taking jabs he shouldn't, but he is still much better in terms of overall technique, as their fight demonstrates.

If we’re going to discount fighters who were associated with the mob (news flash, they aren’t all Italian and the Italians weren’t the only ethnic group involved in organized crime) there’s not a truck big enough to back up to the hall of fame to clean out all the plaques.

And showing some film that one guy is more technically correct than another really means nothing. Lot of ‘textbook’ fighters lose to guys with unorthodox or plain bad technique. In this case we know from the result who the better fighter was, but we can also show plenty of guys Baer knocked out who fought more ‘correctly’ then him.

I really don’t understand the point of this thread.
