Boxing forums are built on criticism. Top level boxers make good money, fan criticism goes with the territory. It's part of any sport. To me, complaining about criticism of fighters is a bit like complaining about the weather. Maybe it makes someone feel better for a bit, but it changes nothing. My advise to those who don't like some of the over-the-top attacks on losing fighters?? Just ignore it if you think it's unwarrented.
I can't say I would be disappointed if Mayweather ever lost. But I damn sure wouldn't be happy about him, nor any other fighter taking that kind of a beating. But whatever.
You still haven't shown me one post where i discredit Cotto the fighter. or disrespect him period. Don't label me b/c your sore. Cotto made 7 million dollars sat. night i'm sure he is good.
Did I say you ever discredited or disrespected Cotto? No. I said I've seen enough of your posts to not take you seriously. Don't put words in my mouth. Please. I don't feel the need to kick anyone when they're down to feel good about myself.
Yes, boxers get torn down after a loss in a major way. Also notice how boxing fans are fickle in other ways: ie, they give a Fighter A "major props" for giving a dangerous but high risk/low reward opponent (Fighter B) a titleshot, and say "Fighter A deserves a rematch if he loses, just for giving dangerous Fighter B a voluntary shot". Then if Fighter B wins, they turn around and say "ah Fighter A lost, we already know he's not as good as Fighter B, Fighter B does not owe him a shot." Boxing fans can be very fickle at times.
well you picked margo to beat him, before saturday night this was seemed impossible, it was known as disrespecting cotto.
First off let me begin by saying "Congratulations" Margarito on your victory. It wasn't the outcome I was expecting and wanted, but as a boxing fan "Thank You" for adding to this great rivalry. Though early on in the fight (1-7rds) it went exactly as I expected, but in the end you were the one with your hand raised high in victory. I still feel like I've just been punched in the gut, and to be honest I haven't felt this way since the Yankees lost Game 7 of the 2001 World Series to the Diamondbacks. Saturday night I just went back to my house and went to sleep. I was just at a lost, and I still am. While I'm not shocked to hear people bad mouthing Cotto. It's just the nature of the beast with prize fighting, but speaking as a boxing enthusiast and not just as a Cotto fan. I'm a bit frustrated and saddened by some of the things I've been reading about Cotto. Cotto was part of giving us the boxing fans and general public a great fight. He fought with courage, heart, will, and more testicualr fortitude than most fighters under that kind of pressure. He did everything he could, he hit Margarito with more than 250 punches and sometimes the legs just go out. He didn't give up, he went out on his shield like a Champion. I'd also like to add by saying we've gotta keep in mind how VITAL the blood loss was. Cotto must have been drinking a lot of Blood. His skin was very pale and he was unable to continue due to not being able to breath more than anything else. I think Cotto stood up quickly and casually walked to his corner in the end to show us and his family that he was fine as far as his head was concerned. He just did not have the air necessary to fight and to even defend himself as his body was slow and weak. I would say the punch tha changed the fight was that 1 punch that messed Cotto's nose up. In the end that was the single most important punch of the night. A lot of the people that are talking smack about Cotto for getting stopped. Are leaving out this major fact in the fight. Cotto fought until the 11rd with a broken nose. For which he clearly paid the price for lack of oxygen. I just find it funny that when Vazquez did it in his first fight against Marquez it was considered a "smart decision" and he QUIT after only four rounds while Cotto fought through it, it's simply hating, and nothing else. Cotto was clearly exhausted in the 11th, but he was still in control of himself and knew what was going on. He didn't get put to sleep ala Taylor vs Pavlik, and he still was boxing and counter punching Margarito. He just simply ran out of gas, and while Margarito's pressure didn't help. It was not being able to breath properly (due to the broken nose) that played just as much a factor in Margarito's victory as Margarito himself. In closing dispite what some would say here on ESB....One loss does not end a career, and many great champions have lost and still have gone on to greatness. I was a huge Cotto fan before the loss and after the loss, I'm an even bigger Cotto fan. He's showed in the past that he's an awesome pressure fighter and a relentless body puncher, and against Margarito, he proved he is a masterful boxer and counterpuncher. Now it's time to get hungry again, take the year off, and come back stronger next year. A few tactical adjustments/changes and he'll once again be the number one welterweight. This loss will only serve as a learning experience.
