Apparently deliberate fouls by Floyd Patterson?

Another unique example - as if only driven by professional obligation, Floyd laid some half hearted body punches on a battered Ellis while in a clinch - THEN, Floyd rubbed the recently targeted area with the same hand as if to say “There, there, is that better now?”.

Talk about a paradox in the sport of boxing - something that made Floyd all the more compelling.

Sort of similar to Floyd going to help Daniels, was when Zoe’s Folley nailed Ringo with a beautiful right hand toward the end of the round, Oscar was going down for all money but then Zora caught him to stop him from falling.

Oscar was still well fogged when he sat down on his stool for the minutes break. Superb straight right hand punch by Folley who apparently modelled his game on his idol Joe Louis.

Was the late 50s/60s the era for some very left of field HW boxers? Floyd, Zora, Machen, Big Cat etc…all excellent fighters for mine but certainly not without their emotional/mental issues which in fact reinforced the frailty of being human even in a blood sport such as boxing.

 

Arguello is a sad example of someone who was good in and out and became bad on the outside.

 

There's plenty of footage of a young Tyson KO'ing opponents and then helping them up after, hugging them, and offering a few nice words to them. He was really sportsmanlike when young and Cus was still around.

if the fight is over. that is to be admired.
but to do it and resume the fight? no, that is farce.

 

Patterson fouled Johansson with rabbit punch to knock him out in the 3rd fight.

 

Thats after the fight. This was during the fight. Daniels wasnt out, he was just knocked down.

sure if legitimate knockdown it should be against rules to help opponent up!

Nope. It was a legit knockdown. And why would it be considered faking the fight? Patterson still won the fight.
