Tim. Too well rounded for Earnie. But I love both fighters though.

Most likely Tim but Ernie could pull a "Bonecrusher" on him.

I like Earnie. I like Tim also. I like ‘em both.

No, I’m not stealing @McGrain ’s preferred “draw” outcome which I believe he has copyright on anyway. I prefer to avoid litigation.

I actually “like” Tim to win this one.

Better boxer and, at best, had the chin and fortitude to likely cope with a random, sneaky bomb or two that might get through - doesn’t want to take too many from Earnie, mind you.

Apparently that Shavers guy could really hit.

This. Tim was a much better fighter than Earnie, but the former being able to take a flush shot from the latter...I'm not sure Tim could take that kind of shot. If Bonecrusher could do it, Earnie would more likely do it.

But, say the Tim of the Holmes fight shows up. Earnie might last 7 rounds.

Witherspoon should win this unless he shows up completely out of shape and day dreaming ( which could happen )

Shavers did not have a lot of big wins but he could take out anyone. The problem is that he rarely did that against top fighters. His best wins, Norton, Ellis and Bugner, were all against well past their prime fighters. Barring the proverbial puncher's chance coming true, I can't imagine Shavers beating prime Witherspoon. I'll go with Terrible Tim by wide decision.

    That could certainly happen.
If we take the Witherspoon from the Holmes fight, then, I'm seeing Spoon by a late ko or points win.

Witherspoon is a solid fave but Shavers in with the proverbial puncher's chance here. He showed the way around and thru an aging Norton's cross armed defense and he'd be trying to do the same here. I think he'd come out hard and try to crack the shell early and dig straight into the meat. I wouldn't be surprised if he had Witherspoon in trouble or even decked him in the early going but i'm not overly confident he could follow up. It might even be mildly reminiscent of the Lyle fight, result wise.

The x factor might be how often did we see Tim badly hurt/dropped and then storm back to win? We know Shavers at his best was good enough to almost decapitate Holmes and really hurt an aging Ali. Witherspoon did however have more two handed power than either of these and Earnie also had the habit of quite often falling short.

    Rip roaring matchup IMO.

Terrible Tim Witherspoon would be a wealthy man, I might hang out with Tim. Lol. Shavers lacks stamina, if Jerry Quarry took him out on Dec 14 1973 in round 1, then an in shape Witherspoon could do the same to The Mighty Acorn.

I would expect Witherspoon to win, but both these gentlemen had their off nights.

Anyway, if it is happening tomorrow night, then that is my call!

Witherspoon was the poor man's Larry Holmes, to Holmes poor man 's Ali.
Witherspoon was certainly a better more well rounded fighter than the "Acorn " Earnie Shavers and should be able to handle him decisively. But I would compare this to Witherspoon's two fights with " Bonecrusher" Smith.
If Witherspoon's in shape as he was in the first Smith fight he beats Shavers. If he comes in lackadaisical and half trained as he was in the second Smith fight. He'd get koed much more cleanly than Smith koed him.
