Wilder is something else. It doesn't matter how good your fundamentals are or if you've been boxing since you were a kid, he just cuts through all that with a punch. I can appreciate why people want to pick apart his fundamentals and downplay his CV but christ on a bike he's exciting to watch.
To me there’s very little more exciting than a flawed fighter with a big punch. He’s almost always behind or close on the cards but there’s a time bomb waiting to go off, so you stay on the edge of your seat. The opponent generally is like a kid on the last day of school waiting for the bell to ring so they’re free and clear … but the teacher may drop a pop quiz major test and hold them back a year before those last minutes or seconds tick off.
But everyone bar the judge knows Chisora was the deserved winner of that fight (and beat beat prime Helenius).
LOL, I’m an American and a pop quiz is exactly that — a quiz/exam (usually a short one to make sure the students have been keeping up on their homework or reading) given with no notice. Usually right at the start of class.
Wilder is either no.3 or 4 in the division. Toss up between him and Joyce. Fury and Usyk above them two. That's your top 4 in the division.
It must be so stressful fighting him. I imagine you burn a lot of nervous energy knowing he could turn your lights out any second.
More so even because he’s long and tall … you are rarely so far out of range that he couldn’t step in and launch that guided missile so you can’t just take a step back and relax for a second like you can with a lot of fighters.
Just never forget how he feels against quality opponent, I remember ever since the fight: This content is protected
This is the thing with Wilder. At 6"7 he's got that range. These big, heavy footed heavyweights just don't have the footwork and speed to get out the way plus they get greedy with how they can dominate with the jab and press forwards. People keep bringing up Szpilka and Molina but these fights were 6-7 years ago. He's improved hugely. This version of Wilder beats them versions in the first round now imo.
The 2 most exciting fighters in the world are Wilder and Inoue. I like how Wilder is much more appreciated in the UK these days after the Fury fights showed he has great heart.
That was what I was most impressed with. Wilder did not stand properly on his feet in balance when he sent Helenius to dreamland.
