Many people keep saying Wilder wouldn’t be able to land any punches on Usyk if they fought, but look at Usyk’s beat up face after fighting AJ. Do you think AJ is that much better than Wilder? If Wilder landed just one of the many punches the stiff neck bodybuilder landed on Usyk, he’d go to sleep instead of suffering multiple cuts and bruises. This content is protected
Usyk has taken punches from Joshua and Gassiev in the pros, Joyce in the semi-pros, and Majidov in the amateurs. Wilder is not that big of a step up in power, if at all. Usyk will win handily.
How much better? Like AJ can land 124 punches on Usyk and Wilder 0 better? When fighting Wilder, it’s already given that every opponent he’s fought is a better boxer, but being a better boxer doesn’t always give them the W.
Maybe not but it's possible AJ hits just as hard as Wilder. He's KO'd the higher level of opposition. He also had a very high KO rate until he stepped up his level of competition. And he's definitely more fundamentally sound.
I think Usyk wins. All your points about AJ are spot on. Although, I think Wilder has speed, aggression and stamina over AJ. That could be the difference that gets DW the KO. A fight I'd like to see.
Usyk would be the favorite given the vast disparity in their footwork, but it would be a tense and fun fight. Would rather see Wilder/Joshua but this would be an okay 2nd choice!
People who say Wilder won't land on Usyk are delusional. AJ landed on Usyk, Chisora landed on Usyk, even Witherspoon landed on Usyk. He's not unhittable. AJ had success in both fights hitting Usyk with straight right hands as Usyk was coming in with the jab. Wilder has better timing than he's given credit for and he's insanely fast when he's around this weight and that's what will allow him to land his straight right hand on Usyk often enough to put him to sleep. Wilder mid-late KO.
Wilder won't land nearly as often on Usyk as Joshua did. Joshua's really only ever been out boxed by Usyk, Wilder in contrast has been out boxed twice by Ortiz who went life and death with Charles Martin, out boxed by Washington and schooled 3 times by Fury. Wilder could barely land enough to win a round against Ortiz who's far slower and more stationary than Usyk. Fact is Usyk would utterly school him and even if Wilder some how lands one of his big right hands, Usyk has shown he has a granite chin thus far. Wilder has been taken the distance by Fury and Stiverne, I'm pretty certain the far more elusive and durable Usyk could go 12 rounds with Wilder, though to be honest if they ever fight Usyk probably stops Wilder.
Joshua was being outboxed by Povetkin as well. But yeah, Usyk and Povetkin are both gold medalists and amateur world champions. Povetkin is the only SHW gold medalist to beat every opponent he had as an amateur, actually.
I don't like Wilder, but so far he managed to land the right hand against everyone, no point of denying him it's a good punch of his. Then true - Usyk is way superior in skills and Wilder will suffer to land it, but I think if he does, Usyk will be out.
