Should Bonecrusher Smith Have Being DQD For The Tyson fight?

Henry Akinwande got the elbow for clinging on to Lewis.
Smith did a lot of holding and mauling against Tyson.
Would you have disqualified him?

 

no.
for most of it the fight. he would throw a few punch. which did mostly miss. then clinch. then walk away.

sometimes was frustrating to watch - because Tyson look like baby size in Smith's arms. Smith so much the bigger & stronger. but not posses the skill & speed to win. too slow to land much punch. so resort to hold & wrestle too much

much of the match was Smith walking around Tyson & clowning. this was interesting bit. Smith use his feet & size well to keep Tyson off, & use his strength.
Tyson win with speed & skills. land a few punch & make Smith miss most of his.

 

Here's a controversial suggestion.

Wladmir Klitschko would easily dominate Tyson taking Smith's approach but adding more jabbing and 1-2's and being more strategic in the clinching. Smith isn't half the fighter Wladmir is.

As for Smith's performance, no, he shouldn't have been disqualified but he probably should have lost a point.

 

Interesting thought on Wlad. He certainly would be able to manhandle the hell out of Tyson in a clinch.

No but he had no answer or skill for Tyson. Like said, Wladimir could actually utilize a similar strategy but w effectiveness given his ATG skill level.

Off topic maybe but I chuckle w Smith being called "Boneclincher". Lookin like a wife who was hugging her armed forces husband after deployment.

 

He should have been warned ,then penalized a point. Then had another point taken away and if he continued then yes . DQ him. That fight was a text book on failure of a referee to control a fight

He did lose a point for excessive holding in rounds two and eight.

 

What does the ref do after 3 points are taken? I think after 3 you should simply be disqualified for wasting everyone's time. It's highly unlikely you'll get a knockout if you're spending half the rounds hugging, and you certainly won't win a decision after losing 3 points.
