Doesn’t help that so many **** fights are ppv. It’s like the sport is trying to kill itself sometimes.

Yep, hit the nail on the head. It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth we you pay $75 to watch meaningless fights that were never any good to begin with.

Not just in a few decades as soon as this year. Showtime is on the verge of leaving boxing forever.

Boxing could make a comeback if they put good fights on network or at least cable TV instead of PPV, but that won't happen because there are too many palms to grease.

It will die a slow death unless there are some mergers that reduce the number of belts and create matchups people want to see.

By blocking nearly every worthwhile fight? He has barely allowed any fighter, including his own to grow. All his fighter’s have padded records, and he makes it much harder for any division with PBC competition to thrive. 140lbs is one of the best the divisions probably because PBC has so little power in it. Fights can actually be made across the board.

You really think Benavidez turned down Andrade because he really wanted more than what he would make fighting Canelo? You really think Luis Ortiz wasn’t happy with the money Joshua was flaunting him? Not to mention it was Haymon that started to overpay guys to fight nobodies, he was known for running a hard bargain, when PBC rolled around the competition is obviously forced to start overpaying to keep fighters.

It also doesn’t help that Haymon has sunk so many boxing outlets. Basically any network Haymon gets into bed with sorely regrets it afterwards and has kicked boxing to the curb. Thanks Al!

Crawford should have fought Garcia/Thurman/Porter/Pacquiao, Spence once or twice, Garcia/Porter/Ugas should have fought many more top rated guys/prospects at welterweight which would build the next generation, Wilder should’ve fought Klitschko and more top 10 opponents. Charlo should’ve fought Canelo and a slew of top 10, Tank many more top 10 guys, Benavidez with nearly 30 fights needed more top 10, should’ve fought Plant, Smith or Ryder by now. Boots another guy that is coming up too slow with 30 fights already. Teofimo Lopez was a champ and beat then P4P king at 23 with under 20 fights. Shakur Stevenson under 20 fights.

Instead all these PBC guys have padded records and we have a stagnant sport as a result.

Haymon gives them more for less. He pays fighters a 2 fight salarly for fighting once a year. How can other promoters compete against Al when hes paying the fighters to ride the bench?

I am only talking about HW now. Like 10 years ago most of us already knew about Fury, Wilder and Joshua even they were early in their careers. We knew they would be champions one day. I still remember Fury vs Cunningham or Wilder vs. Liakhovich.

Do you know any fighters today, also in other weightclasses, that are upcoming prospects who will be the real deal in like 7-10 years?

I can't even name one. I admit I don't follow the sport that much anymore but there are hardly any threads even here or RBRs about some upcoming fighters.

Jalolov, Shigeoka, Boots, and Ortiz will all become champions. There are many guys like this throughout the divisions.

Boxing is a niche sport now and has been for a while.

I'd say in the UK, Hearn brought it back to the mainstream by tapping into the football crowd with Saturday night fights free on sky, but that didn't last.

I teach and if kids are talking about hard guys, they don't mention Usyk or Fury. They talk about Jon Jones, Oliveira, Ngannou etc.

It's a shame, but I watch boxing because I enjoy it, and if I want to discuss boxing in detail, I have to do it on here cos in real life very few give a ****.

Boxing already is thought of as on a par with the WWE & Pro Wrestling. Almost every one on here has said at sometime " I know GGG will never win a decision against Canelo in Vegas regardless !!
They've also complained about highly suspicious, to be kind, judges who tender ludicrous scorecards in fights robbing the rightful winners.
Do the State Commissions ever haul in these officials & ask them to explain their cards?? Or censure a referee for blatant bias ??
We all know some officials shouldn't be allowed to judge a flower show let alone boxing match.
Why is this allowed to go on ??? Easy answer, the old saying spells it out "MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL" $$$$$$$$$$
    IT BREEDS CORRUPTION !!!!

I used to say this to people back in the 90's, when reflecting back on the 70's lol.

"Boxing" has indeed died. It's not the same sport anymore, it has changed too much to call it boxing. There is way more talking than fighting. The name of the sport should be changed, maybe to "Media Beef".

If one stops and really thinks about the changes in boxing over the last 30 years or so, it's pretty staggering. Boxing is different now. I remember back as far as the 70's, but the change since only back then, is just massive. So sad.

    RIP, my beloved sport.

I understand when Muhammad Ali fought some fights in the seventies they had as many as 100 million viewers in the US alone. Those days will never ever come back. Very few people on the street even know who Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder are. Anthony Joshua is somewhat of a house name in Europe but not the us. It's just on TV too little in the US now. Some people have said put boxing back on network TV but the reason it's not a network TV it's it's very hard for them to sell ads on tv. That is because a lot of companies don't want to be associated with boxing and if there is a knockout in a match an Advertiser doesn't want to take the risk that their ads scheduled for the later rounds won't be viewed.

The heavyweight scene dictates how popular boxing is to the casual fan. A casual fan loves to see an initimidating huge heavyweight that knocks you the **** out or is charastmatic. That's the way it's always been. All the other divisions are just extras to the casual fan. The only reason why Floyd done so well was because the heavyweight scene was lacking at the time. If you say for instance a prime Tyson or prime Floyd, Tyson would always out sell Floyd.

Now UFC has more to offer to the casual fan than a boxing fan, but a top heavyweight boxer would still out perform a ufc heavyweight, and I think it'll be like that for a long time yet.
