No, dude comeon. What did Cotto weigh when he fought Judah and Quintana? 154-155? That is jr.middle limit.

Margarito has never been above 161lbs as far as I know. That is what he goes up to.

If you do same day weigh ins do you realize what happens? Everyone from 110lbs up will shift into the next weight bracket. And I do mean near everyone. Look at all the jr.middles, they all walk around at middle or lt.heavy limit. And the same applies as you get higher and higher. What does Haye enter the ring at? Surely not the cruiser limit, correct?

Just because you move them doesn't mean the weights won't be the same. Cotto more than likely would be in Margarito's weight bracket no matter how you cut it. The fact remains that Margarito is simply better. Get used to it.

147 is 147... if cotto is so small why dont he go to 140??? because his bone structure and mass is the same as margo and p. williams...

there is no such thing as a fighter weighing 147 and is still to big for WW

The fact that Cotto refuse to be weight dureing the day of the fight should tell you alot about his weight. For people claiming to know that Cotto wieght less is crazzy.

I also find it unfair, and most importantly DANGEROUS. You know how bad it hurts them to dehydrate themsevles??? I mean I dont' blame them a bit at using this advantage, but it isn't healthy for all parties. Isn't healthy to them because there killing there bodies, isn't healthy for there opponent because there so much bigger/ stronger, and isn't healthy for boxing because both fighters are losing years off there careers.
So, they should have same day weigh ins. I mean I like to see knock outs as much as anyone, and one person has to be stronger than the other...but not by to much.
The heavyweight division is a different story. You know ahead of time if you weigh more than 210 your gonna go against ANYONE. They should have a super heavy eventually...If the heavy division ever even takes off again though. Also, a big muscled up 240 pound guy could easily knock out 270 guy. I heard Lennox Lewis say it when they were talking about Wlad...He said "You take a guy over 200 pounds and they can hit hard." Meaning even Lennox is saying a 200 pd guy could hurt him/ knock him out. It's different for a person who really weighs 147, and is a normal size human being (there not that big/ powerful), and somebody weighing 160.
I honestly believe there's more difference between 147/160 than there is 220/240. Just check out Mike Tyson for an example. The guy could of been 300 pds, but if he caught them with that hook, and there ass would be OUT! Your not going to see Kelly Pavlik (who is very heavy handed at his size) knock out Hayes for example (about a 40-50 pd difference).

Sheeeit, the only guy who wasn't cuttin' a tremendous amount of weight is PBF and he doesn't ever make "size" an excuse regarding his performances. When Margarito was fighting (and damn near losing to) Clottey, none of this **** was an issue. As soon as he stomps a mudhole in Cotto's ass he's the poster-child for weight abusing cheaters when Cotto himself was a weight-abusing cheater if that's your rationale. Smells like a bunch if you ask me. We don't believe you, you need more people.

I agree w/this thread. What Gatti did to Gamache years back was CRIMINAL.

20 lb+ weight difference on fight night = lethal KO

since you pointed it out, how much was the weight of both fighters Margo-cotto when they fought????

i used to have some of the same feelings as you untill i realized that ALL BOXERS LOSE WEIGHT FOR THE SCALES... which gives ALL BOXERS EQUAL TIME AND CHANCE TO DROP IN WEIGHT OR DECLINE THE FIGHT....

EVERY BOXER has equal opportunity to lose weight through training

This, imo, is the only legitimate issue. Fans shouldn't rag on the fighters for taking advantage of a system that encourages this. Earlier weight-ins, which were passed off as a safety measure, have been a DISMAL failure. Boxing should seriously consider going back to the same-day weigh in to curb these abuses, but until they do, you cannot blame the fighters for taking advantage of it. If they can make the weight, under THIS SYSTEM, it's completely legit.

he shouldn't have won? WTH are you talking about. He beat cotto down to the point where he couldn't conitnue. If that isn't the very definition of what boxing is I don't know. prize fighting is not about throwing a pretty punch. Its about taking the other guy out, its about earning your pay for future payday, its about excitment. How you can say he doesn't deserve to win is blasphemous.

I remember reading an interview with Margarito a long time ago and he was asked about his ability to make weight. I believe he said he walks around at 160 pounds, trains all year round and eats regularly until the final week of a fight.
