Not bad handspeed from Leutele.

 

Huni definitely wobbled for a sec.

 

Why turn Huni into a brawler. if it aint broke don't fix it. his bread and butter is speed and movement, why abandon it.

 

Great fight, leutele won 2-3 rounds with big shots Justis has completely taken over once he started boxing, the turning him into a modern Tyson is completely the wrong strategy, he got caught & definately got hurt.

 

Entertaining scrap though Huni definitely took too many shots. Leutele impressed me for sure.

 

Can't disagree with it, the guy has no quit in him thoroughly impressed how tough he is

 

I agree. Let the kid fight to his strengths. Got rocked and damaged his hand trying to be to aggressive. Uses his speed and feet and does it a lot easier.

Read they talking to Kossobutskiy's team. Lonergan is a sick man chucking his fighters in with beasts like that.

 

Just catching up on the card, how does Clay Waterman win 60-55 on a judges card when he got knocked down in the 1st round lol.

Ironically it's the same judge that gave Bommber 59-55 on his card. He's a shocking judge.

 

I think theres a reason Huni has stacked on some weight, and stood and traded. His handlers are too aware of Hunis lack of power and are trying to give him a chance to develop it. In the process Huni is going to have to rely on his chin... which is suspect. FK that! Dont listen to the noise. Hes a thoroughbred not a draft horse.

Im with the rest of you, boxing is the art of 'hitting and not getting hit'. Huni is never going to be a puncher, and by trying to be he is going to get hit. He is a world class boxer. Dont matter if you win by being boring. Win fights without getting hit. Win on points.

He'll be damaged goods early in his career if he gets nailed by one of these club fighters.

Strong showing from Justis Huni but agree with the comments above about him playing to his strengths. He's lightning quick both with his hands & feet & needs to use them rather than standing in front of the other bloke exchanging heavy artillery for extended periods of time. He appeared to be rubber-legged at the end of the second & dropped during the fourth (not called). That he was able to fight with intensity through until the finish line is testament to his powers of recovery & conditioning, but trying to out-tough a tough guy probably wasn't the best strategy for this particular fight.

If they're wanting him to improve his punching power & score spectacular kayos, matching him with tough guys who have never been stopped probably isn't the way to do it. I think he's plenty entertaining even without the big knockouts so I don't think they need to be as concerned about his punching power as they are. The knockouts will come by accumulation against guys who aren't as resilient as what Leutele was.

The big disappointment coming out of the fight is Huni's hand injury. Another 12 months on the sidelines recovering from a broken hand isn't what's required at this point, but they need to get it right before he resumes.

Put a line through guys like Kossobutskiy & Briedis as his next couple of opponents. No to Big Daddy Browne as well. Don't put him in with murderous punchers. Plain & simple. Even if he has a good chin it doesn't mean it needs to be tested out every fight.

I'd be looking at those two Kazakhs who won Olympic bronze medals in the Super Heavyweight division at the last three Olympics once he's got a few more fights under his belt. They would be attractive international opponents who could be marketed to an audience on the basis of their Olympic medals & undefeated professional records. Especially since Justis missed the Olympics bus. It worked for Jeff Fenech.

If Justis is out for another year they need to look at decent local opponents for his next couple. Maybe Willis Meehan, Kris Terzievski or the remnants of what's left of the NZ H/W ranks. I get that Foxsports / Main Event want to match him with big name overseas opponents in order to get a return on their investment but they need to cool their jets until he has sufficient momentum in his career to be able to accommodate them.

Get him three wins in a row without a broken hand then go international.

 

Justis Huni was supposed to fight Dave Allen today but Allen decided against it because he didn’t have enough time to prepare and he has a newborn child.
