I like Bivol. But, objectively, he is looking a bit overrated right now. Ramirez is just not legitimate championship material at 175. Ramirez would be hard pressed to beat any legitimate contenders fighting the way he did tonight.

After tonight, still neutral on Bivol. Absolute top class technician. Still cant warm to him though. But I do appreciate the sublime skill.

But ask yourself, why did Zurdo fight the way he fought tonight?

    2 reasons:

    1) Bivol was much quicker and more skilled.
    2) Ramirez just isn't good.

    I can't agree.

In certain ways, he was in a little too deep at that early stage of his professional career. You could even say that he or his handlers were a little presumptuous. But he gutted out a tough baptism of fire and finished powerfully. Salido was very experienced, still very tough and strong, and decidedly underrated in his skillset.

And, yes, Lomachenko was leery of López in the first half of their bout, but grabbed his balls soon enough and firmly enough to escape the kind of withering assessment I'm dishing out to Zurdo tonight.

Look, I do agree that Lomachenko has been a bit of a ***** when he's had pedestrian opposition in front of him, but he's got considerably greater reserves of grit and desire in him than Zurdo showed tonight.

For what it's worth, I thought López had a very good shot to beat Lomachenko, but I didn't predicate that on an expectation that Lomachenko would just roll over for twelve rounds (and he did not, whereas Zurdo more or less just did).

If he's only a little better than Canelo why did he waterboard him when they fought?

I was a little late and just finished the replay and man, Bivol is legit. He was already legit after the schooling of Canelo but against a guy who probably outweigh him by 20 pounds come fight night is crazy. We need to see him against Bertibiev before it’s too late.

Look, I said Bivol would beat him for those very reasons, but still... let's not underrate this performance either. As flawed as Zurdo is, no one has ever been able to neutralize him to this degree. Sure, it was the skills and the speed, but also what I thought would play a part, the underrated power, that was freezing Zurdo in his tracks. That's going to make him a handful for virtually everyone in and around the division, including Beterbiev.

He only landed about 130 punches against Canelo. That is about 10 per round. Fairly anemic stats for a winning fighter. He won because Canelo landed even less. I do agree that Bivol has skill and excellent footwork. I just sense that something is missing. His power is a bit underwhelming. Not sure how he will react in a true firefight. Beterbiev will definitely bring some fire.

I agree with you. The Bivol-Beterbiev fight needs to happen before Artur gets any older. It will tell us a lot about both men.

Loma has more intestinal fortitude than Zurdo does. After the latter's performance tonight I'm left with no choice, but to disavow my fandom. Very underwhelming performance. Still, you're measuring Loma against a fighter who has shown now a decided lack in grit and tenacity.

And it's not as if Loma is hiding a glass jaw either. Its sturdy and solid. Loma is simply a bully. What else can you call a man who taunts, disrespects, and beats up on overmatched opposition and then turtles up when finally confronted by a man who can also dish it out right back to you?

I know. I'm not saying he's the grittiest guy out there, I'm saying he's probably due more credit from you on that score than you've previously been willing to give, considering the guy you and I were both rooting for tonight went out with not much more than a disconsolate whimper.
