2 of the most prolific knockout punchers at LHW. But who would you say was the harder, devastating, and more efficient puncher out of the two?
I haven't seen a whole lot of Archie Moore, but based on the footage I have seen of both fighters. It has to be Foster doesn't it ? Them highlight reel KO's are something else.
This is a good question. On the one hand Foster was much more devastating. OTOH Moore was often fighting at HW. OTOH HWs did not tend to be that big back then. OTOH LHWs could not rehydrate to be bigger in the ring then. I think it still is Foster. Mainly because the size gap was not that big, but the effect was. Also you can judge Archie at LHW for most of his career-he could not have added much punching power going up a few lbs. right? When he was in the 190's & above it has been pointed out he was not lean... Overall greatness, accomplishments, boxing ability, combinations-definitely Moore. H2H at LHW? I give the boxer at least a slight advantage over the slugger. At HW, more so.
I wouldn't argue with anyone Moore had better skills and probably beat Foster head to head. But I seriously doubt he hit harder than Foster with one clean shot. Though Moore was a viscous puncher in his own right, and has the ( most verifiable) ko record which will never be broken. Boxing itself will be banned before that record comes CLOSE to halfway being caught lol. But with one clean punch, I'll go with Foster as the hardest puncher in Lt. Heavyweight history.
Archie Moore actually knocked out quality fighters even quality heavy weights where as Foster did not. Take it for what u will
I think Michael Spinks belongs in that discussion, but I wouldn’t want to be hit by any of the three to make my own judgment.
No doubt, the Spinks Jinks belongs in the discussion of hardest punches in Lt. Heavy history. Lt. Heavy had quite a few vicious punchers as far back as Fitzsimmons.
One knocked out HWs and dropped Marciano the other ones career highlight is over a former MW at the end of the line.
Foster's left hook just gets the nod over Moore's right hand. The left hook of Foster's that ko'd Mike Quarry and Dig Tiger vs Moore's short counter right that dropped Rocky Marciano and got him within a whisker of the world crown. It's a pity there isn't coverage of Moore's early days as a middleweight contender before he moved up in weight. As much as anything to see how his style evolved over the years.
Foster looks more devastating. He was turning ppl into Shinigami(for my Bleach fans) but I'm sure if more of Moores knockout wins were available he'd have those showings more too. Plus his power was still a problem moving up. Not so much w Foster.
