Could would should but never did..............he was the Tomato can crusher until he stepped up, barely got by Jacobs who is subpar at best and ran into a wall against Canelo............one of the most over rated Euro fighters on this forum.

If he would have gone up to 168 Ward would have put a absolute clinic on him .

GGG is about 170 in the ring im pretty sure, to be fair. and most boxers cut about 14ish pounds so I doubt Jacobs was that much heavier to make that big a difference.

Was he in line for a shot, or did he just call him out?

Outstanding career as an amateur and pro.
I can't see anyone bar Hagler and Monzon beating him with any sort of confidence.
And you don't rate him and can name how many who'd beat him ?

He finished #17 in the middleweight survey here from a few years back.

As of this moment, 13 have him inside the Top 15, and 13 have him outside the Top 15.
The "average" of the results here feels like the same ballpark as the Survey results.

IIRC, Jacobs took a substantial fine by coming in 2 or 3 lbs over the 170lb rehydration clause on the morning of the Canelo fight. He would have been over 175lbs in the ring vs Canelo and likely over 180lbs vs GGG

I wouldn't have him top thirty. His resume is awful for such a highly ranked fighter.

His amateur career isn't particularly relevant. So what about his pro career stands out to rank him top 1-5 in middleweight?

The argument about poor competition could be applied to other middleweights that are frequently rated highly.

Hagler competition doesn't seem that exceptional either. Are Hamsho Sibson Artuofermo really better than the guys Golovkin fought?

If you can't see any other Middleweights beating Golovkin, other than Monzon and Hagler - presumably, even after watching Golovkin squeak past Jacobs and Derevyanchenko, then I can only imagine just how low of an opinion you have of the division, historically.
