H2H? Top 5 IMO Resume? Top 30 - though that would arguably be top 15 if he hadn't been stiffed on a couple of cards... Overall I'd maybe say somewhere between 10 & 20
Top ten for me. The first fight with Canelo was a clear victory. I also felt the 2nd fight should have gone Gs way as well. I don't even feel his resume is that low level, I think it's solid.
His resume is pretty trash, it’s so trash people are giving him unofficial wins vs Canelo to boost his resume because he has nothing else, before the Canelo fights they were giving him credit for amateur success and being ducked for not being a money fighter which is pretty hilarious in hindsight. I’m not really interested in h2h or fairy tails, I rank The G-Man and RJJhighly h2h at MW but would never put them above Hagler, Greb, SRR, Hopkins, Monzon, Burley, Griffith, Fullmer… hell not even above Benvenuti or Marshall same with GGG. It’s impossible to rank him in the top 10 if you know any boxing history, he just hasn’t done enough.
The thing that I don't get is people are unofficially giving Golovkin wins over Canelo to heighten his resume. Yet they don't apply that same rule to Golovkin's debatable wins over Jacobs, Derevyanchenko. You can't have it both ways.
Top 15 at a stretch His resume is full of bums Edit His resume really stinks Might have him top top 40 lol
Yes but you can't heighten Golovkins resume with unofficial wins, as the old saying goes "it's all about the W". As I keep saying was Canelo vs Golovkin 1 controversial ? Yes. But a draw is not the worst decision ever. I had Golovkin winning 7-5 but it was close enough, and I see nothing wrong with Canelo getting the nod in the other fights. And also how highly rated is Canelo as a Middleweight anyway in ATG rankings ? Fighters like Jesse Burnett lost loads of close controversial decisions to fighters like Galindez, Conteh, etc. I don't see anyone rating him higher. The fact is Golovkin had 2 decisions go against him which were debatable, but on that same token he also had 2 close debatable decisions go his way.
Course you can. I credit Hoya with his performance against Tito as well. You see nothing wrong with Canelo getting a draw and a win, so you can rate however you want. I rate on what I see.
Bit different though ODLH had a amazing career full of very good names on his resume, and whether or not he lost to Tito doesn't really effect his standing that much. Golovkins resume hinges on whether or not you believe he won close fights vs Canelo. That to me just shows how average Golovkins resume really is.
It's not about anything hinging on anything else. As a WW you could see Hoya very different depending on how you score his fights, there's a few controversial ones there for him. Rate Golovkin however you want, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
