Fiodor Czerkaszyn born 1/11/1996 is a 6'1 Middleweight with a 21-0 13 KO's record. Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine and fighting out of Warsaw, Poland. I've been high on Fiodor for the last few years now, but since I've been preoccupied with RBR's and been being lazy, I just hadn't gotten around to do a thread on him yet. Usually I get the drop on these guys by a few years, but Showtime beats me to him, where he dazzlingly disassembled the usually durable Nathaniel Gallimore over a punishing 10 round display of pure pugilistic brilliance. Sadly his excellent showing was overshadowed by the tragic events in the main event, which was Morrell-Yerbossynuly. The ethnically Polish Fiodor while born right across the border in Ukraine, also has something else in common with them, he fights like a Ukrainian as well, and not just any Ukrainian, but the creme of the crop. He's like the perfect orthodox combination of Loma, Gvozdyk and Usyk, his control of range is beautiful, his footwork stunning, his pinpoint accuracy, his inventive angles, his ability to find or make openings, his intelligent pressure, his ramrod power jab, his gorgeous one two, his parrying, slipping, blocking and overall defensive prowess, are all a joy to behold. He might be one of the most exciting prospects at Middleweight there is, and I doubt there's too many that could effectively deal with the tremendous intangibles he brings to the table, especially since the division isn't quite what it used to be. I love everything about this guy, in fact, I think he's kind of brilliant. So what he lacks in KO power, he makes up for it with his immaculate craftsmanship in the ring. He's also a decent looking fellow, with a charming personality and speaks excellent English, so he's easy as hell to market. So feast your eyes on the exquisite skills of the Ukrainian Nailgun on display. I'm a new fan of his. I added him to my watch list on BoxRec after his last fight, it was the first time I saw him in action.
I had heard of him before the Gallimore fight but never checked him out because there were so many Eastern Europeans at similar stages of development. I was impressed, however. I think he's ready for most of the top guys at 160 now.
Skills pays the bills for this Ukranian but you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned his personality, very likeable character.
Yeah, Golovkin is on the way out, Munguia only makes 160 for so long, Charlo may move up, and Andrade is inactive and fickle. Of course any number of 154-pounders may jump up to get in on the action, too, so it's an interesting situation. Hopefully Czerkaszyn makes a play sooner than later.
