Enough "PBF avoided Margarito" Threads!

Pit, I don't believe those numbers. He didn't get 8 for Baldomir. No way. He didn't get 20 for Hatton either. I also highly doubt that. And 15 even seems high for DLH, probably more like 10.

 

Espn sources say he atleast got 8 million. I haven't seen you post a non-Arum link that went over the details of the deal Arum was offering him yet. You also said the contract had no strings attached but now we hear that it was a 3 fight deal including Hatton and Cotto, so what is the deal?

 

You're better than this Ambition. Don't be a cheerleader. The Oscar fight happened in May of 2007. Floyd retired right after that fight. In addition, Margo was scheduled to fight Williams in July and then Cotto that Nov, provided that he won. As we all know, he lost. Floyd's not coming out of retirement to fight some guy coming off a loss like that. Yeah, he came back to fight Hatton. However, no sane person is going to turn down a potential $20 mill payday against a guy they can't lose to. Margo would fight Hatton right now if he thought he could make that type of money.

 

Floyd made about $25 mill for the Hatton fight as well as the Oscar fight.

 

well I do , but even if you don't believe he got that much lets say he did get 15 for hatton plus a percentage of the PPV buys and 10 for hoya plus a percentage of the PPV buys. you can deny he came out better then he did with Arm and he still got fighting hatton on his own terms then with Arum..

 

I like the way you say the DLH fight came and went as though it meant nothing, and Margo was this almighty fight that had to be made.

Who was Margo at the time to the general populace of the world? Be realistic. No one is having a go at Margo here, he has just accomplished an amazing feat, what a warrior, but we are talking about 18-20 months ago Margo. The level of exposure is completely different now, Margo would have struggled to break P4P top 30 at that stage, and you are talking about the P4P #1 ducking him.

Would you be saying this if Margo lost to Cotto? No, i don't think so, yet it has no effect on how Margo was at that point.

I think what most people fail to realize, as much as we all love the sport of boxing, what we "want" it to be is totally different than what it actually is. Its sad that now its more of a "business" than just boxing. Now its more "if the money is right, ill fight anyone" rather than "i want to fight the best". Yes PBF is the best fighter right now arguably, with the best skills, fastest hands, and greatest ring knowlegde and manipulation. But we must all except that with this always comes "greed". To say that PBF is ducking is kind of lame, because i see the business stand point of a lot of things on a day to day basis and boxing is no different. It is evident that PBF is not going to fight for anything less that 12-15 million. I truely believe that he is a victom of his own success in his mind(if you know what i mean). I believe he believes that with his skills, the people and promoters etc, have to pay him for it. Which is sad. But it is reality. I love to watch PBF fight when he does fight. He is a magician in the ring and he has the concept of boxing science down to a 'T'. Times have changed, fighters have changed, paydays have changed so i guess in all actuallity we all must adapt to these and except the fact that some fighters, and probably the best ones arnt gonna sign on that dotted line with out the assurity that the reward is FARRRRR greater that the risk. Which is lame but its reality. I wish there were more fighters with the same mentality as James Toney or Cotto or AM who just want to fight the best and be the best. But it isnt like that. Its a shame.

SO in conclusion my point is lets just except PBF for what he is...a businesman more than a boxer..half of the time.

 

When Bob Arum offered Floyd the $8 million to fight Margarito, it was a conditional contract.

Arum would have the promotional rights for Floyd's next 2-3 fights. Floyd obviously was not interested in Arum promoting his fights... after all, he did buy himself out of his contract with Arum.

I think it's convenient that people act like it was a $8 million offer with no strings attached. Naivity at its best.

Floyd did not allow it to get that far he out right rejected the offer

 

Baldo is the worst fighter to ever hold a belt in the ww division. Flody cherry picked Baldo cause there was no way Floyd could lose to him. He needs to get some balls and Fight top fighters. Also Floyd was offered 8 mill to fight Margo and turned it down.

 

I remember watching the replay of the Baldo the slow vs Pbf and watching people leavn the arena after rounds 6 and seven. Merchant and Manny commented that people were leavn the fight and the seats and that alot of seat were empty.
