It ain't no secret that Canelo has been ducking Benavidez for at least two years.

As much as I would like to see that, Canelo's chin is world class. I am looking for a ( don't come back this way) ass whooping.

Yeah we know, Canelo ducked a guy with NO TITLE to unify a division and also fight his arch-nemesis(GGG) and move up to fight Bivol during that time.

Such a ducker that Canelo. LOL

Really isn't difficult at all to criticise him.

Canelo is chasing his light heavyweight fantasies while holding all four belts at 168 hostage for over two years. Benavides isn't the only guy at SMW, other fighters deserve their shots. Champions should defend their titles. Period.

As for Benavidez, Canelo had no problem building his career fighting mexicans. Now says he won't, how convenient. Let's just set that aside for arguments sake and set aside the fact that Canelo didn't want any part of 168 when Benavidez was champion.

All of this "What has Benevidez done?" is pure deflection. He is a two time champion who never lost his title in the ring, fighting in his natural weight class. What had GGG ever done at 168 to deserve a shot? Nothing. It was a cash grab over more worthy opponents.

Canelo is a smart matchmaker, he learned from the best in Mayweather. I feel it's a duck, if not of Benevidez then of the others worthy at 168. You don't. We can agree to disagree.

It's hard for me to respect any champion who hasn't defended their titles against anyone in the weight class for two years.

Like I said, he got a built in excuse for losing to Bivol, but not for Benavidez and that's why he chose to fight Bivol. D Benny will snatch his fan base as well. That affects his money. He don't want that.

So he's still planning on fighting the bigger guy, who holds a styles advantage, and fighting him at a weight class he doesn't belong.

And people will still find a way to not give him respect for this.

That being said, it's a stupid fight for Canelo and he should just forget 175.

Jesus Christ, now people care about Canelo defending his 168 belts despite saying it was a garbage division and insisting he fight the 175ers or GGG instead? Isn't Plant vs Benavidez planned for March? Who the **** do you want Canelo to fight then, John Ryder? :qmeparto: These same people LITERALLY been saying Canelo has been ducking a 3rd GGG fight for like 4 years, since he beat him 10 rounds to 2 GGG is an old washed up bum now and the fight was prob fixed. :eusa_doh:

Reading through this thread it's kinda funny seeing the extents some people go to criticize lol.

Someone actually got 4 likes on a comment suggesting this is all a front to save face and actually Canelo is secretly allowing enough time for Bivol to hopefully fight Beterbiev and lose so Canelo can back out while still saying he wanted the fight.

4D Chess moves from Canelo all to duck John Ryder, only explanation. Canelo fought bum, paid off Callum Smith instead of John Ryder himself, who we all know got beat by the British Southpaw from pillar to post but was robbed!!!! Ryder even beat Canelo's 2nd best win Daniel Jacobs and still not a word from team Canelo. Canel... I'm sorry.... "Clenelo" has been ducking Ryder for 3 years now. He fought Bivol earlier this year to duck Ryder in 22, now he's using Bivol's name, but this time not to fight him.. err, he's using Bivol's name hoping a Beterbiev matchup between the two gets signed then hoping Bivol losses so Canelo can save face and claim he wanted the fight all along, thus maintaining his good standing with the general boxing public. :eyebrow2:

I'd be happy to give him respect but he is holding the 168 belts hostage.

After winning the fourth in 2021 he hasn't fought a single super middle. GGG was a career 160 senior citizen and Bivol is at 175.

After a warm up and then Bivol it will be two years.

Genuine question: Does it seem OK to you for a champion not to face anyone in his weight class for two years and keep his belts?

No, I can agree to this.

But I think someone can respect this fight, and the ambition involved in it, while at the same time criticizing his mismanagement of his super middleweight belts.

His fight against GGG at 168 for the titles was a legitimate defense, GGG was champion of the WBA and IBF at 160 and the champion of an organization south of a division can gain a mandatory position for the titles if they choose to do so. Canelo hasn't even said who he's going to fight for a tune up, for all we know it could be a world ranked contender at 168 but people would still complain due to 168 being a watered down division. I don't think it's a good excuse to criticize him at all since he's willing to fight the best, that's like criticizing Jermell Charlo for fighting Spence as a title defense, then wanting to fight Golovkin next in a legacy fight.
