Well that pedigree has carried him pretty well as an amateur and professional, wouldn't you agree? Look, I get it's cool to be contrarian but sometimes common sense is the best denominator here. I'm happy to bookmark this page and return to it if I am wrong and take my licks like a man if Beterbiev loses btw. However, at the same time I want people to give him his credit too when he shows why there are levels to this.
He turned down £1m against Buatsi because his cheerleader Tunde Ajayi didn't think it was a good deal
Beterbiev will keep Yarde in there for a bit of a competitive workout in preparation for what could be a long fight in the Summer of 2023 against Bivol. Big Artur could KO him in a round, but I think he’ll keep him in there for a bit until Yarde starts to get a bit handy as he senses an upset. Then Beterbiev will think to himself… ”This guy is getting too dangerous. I must terminate him.” Then he’ll put Tony’s lights out in, I’d say Round 8.
It's conceivable that Yarde could win as Beterbiev will be 38 y/o and is injury-ravaged and Yarde despite his horrific level of opposition does possess talent, speed and KO power and the combination of speed and power always presents a risk. It's unlikely but Beterbiev could get old over night at 38 years of age albeit weirdly enough these fighters who their detractors claim are overrated seem to be completely immune to the ageing process. And in case it flew over your head, that's called sarcasm. How in god's name Yarde has earned himself two world title shots when by far his best win is Lyndon Arthur, who FTR has never beaten anyone above domestic level, against whom he's 1-1 against, is shocking. Aside from one round, he got completely outboxed and KTFO by a shell of Kovalev who McGirt turned into a boxer who only threw with half power at best. For those of you picking Yarde to win or who secretly think he might do so but lack the minerals to actually say so, what are Yarde's second and third best wins if Arthur is by far his best one? 1. Arthur 2. 3.
I am asking a question because the premise of this post is if Beterbiev will knock out Yarde but when. I understand Beterbiev is the favourite and a destroyer however Yarde is a puncher as well hence my question what if Yarde gets to him. Nothing to do with either fighter being black or white nor do I see why you think that is even a relevant consideration. I am not convinced that stylistically Yarde cannot get to Beterbiev is my point or are you saying it’s not possible?
Thanks Serge you raise some salient points. I am not a Yarde fan but that combination of speed and power with some talent indicates the possibility that he could get to Beterbiev. Of course Beterbiev is the favourite but as you point out a Yarde victory cannot be discounted. In particular we shall be able to properly assess the efficacy of Yarde’s trainer Uncle Tunde Ajayi’s System 9. No excuses either way. As regards earning the title shot this is the benefit of having Uncle Frank as your promoter. Like him or dislike him Uncle Frank gets his guys world title shots.
Gvozdyk is a big puncher Joe Smith is a big puncher Callum Johnson is a big puncher Hot Rod is a big puncher Marcus Browne is a big puncher Cloud is a big puncher Prieto is a big puncher Yarde is a big puncher but you stick him in with all those guys and I'm picking most of them to beat him But you're playing Russian roulette when you keep facing big punchers and like I said any big puncher who also possesses speed always posses a threat, especially when they're facing an injury-ravaged 38 y/o, which Yarde does and you can never count out a puncher.
