How would boxing do in terms of popularity if there was only one championship belt per weight class?

would it increase the sports popularity or would it remain the same?

It would be the first step in a long process that could bring boxing somewhat back to the forefront. Same day weigh ins and fighters fighting more often would also be factors. In any event, no matter what is done nothing would happen right away. It would gain popularity over time just like it lost it over time.

I don't know if one champion is necessary, but certainly 4+ has been ridiculous.

Boxing was really popular during the 2 and 3 belt era though so I don't think it's so much the extra belts as it is that extra belts allow for more political BS which prevents undisputed. The lack of clarity in boxing makes it a frustrating sport to be follow for casual fans esp.

It could be a massive boost.

Nothing touches the imagination more than the idea of a single man atop of a mountain, taking on the hungry wolves.

You would need the dodgy judging and fighters avoiding each other to be addressed as well. It’s infuriating now let alone if one belt was taken up by a protected cash cow.

I dont see same day weigh ins ever happening again.....nor do i see what that does to improve boxings popularity!?!? Ranked opponents fighting each other more and putting a stop to this trend of padding out ur resume to protect ur 0 will also certainly help

Has to be done I think. The best would fight the best more often for one title. Now multiple people can say they’re world champion, milking it with lots of defences without taking the biggest risks.

Fighters fighting the best. Limit PPV to meaningful bouts that don't cost $80 US.

There is only one planet earth, so how can multiple people claim to be champion of it, and indeed get validated, supported and paid well for claiming it.

It would be great for the standing of the sport as long as it legit, but the money men of the sport would be expressing their displeasure ++++, hence it will not happen, the

Cutting back to 3 main orgs and titles per weight class would help.
Having more fights among the top contenders & champs would help the most.
There's way too much politics and "bouts" taking place in social media these days. It's the era we're in.

Of course, we wouldn't have all these fake champions and fighters would be fighting hard to get that number one contender spot. We would bear witness to some great fights and if the champion was defeated then we would know that his predecessor would also be a worthy champion because he would have truely paid his dues.

    This.

Reducing to one championship per division would be a precursor along with eliminating screwjobs, making fights people want to see, reducing unnecessary rematches, and getting boxing back on television. After that, give it ten years to percolate.

I other words, it isn't going to happen.

It would help, giving the general public a clear idea of who the real champion is.

It would also ensure there's only one route to the title in each weight division meaning you can't duck the best by going for a title held by a weak champion. It would mean the best having to fight the best more often which I assume would make the sport more popular as we would have more competitive fights, none of this BS with Spence/Crawford or Joshua/Wilder.

But I can't see it happening the presidents of each of the sanctioning bodies are too small minded and short sighted, scrabbling for what share they can get from the existing pot of money available and will not work together to increase the size of the pot by growing the sport to a wider audience and then taking an equal larger share. Sports which were niche during boxing's golden period have surpassed boxing in popularity by doing what boxing has refused to do, unify competing sanctioning bodies and modernising the sport to appeal the public while also increasing their leverage with TV broadcasters as there's only one body to deal with who hold a monopoly on the sport.

Almost every half decent fight being ppv with a garbage undercard certainly doesn't help.
