I gave up on it. Boxing has reached the age where there are simply too many historical figures and achievements to assign a number. It’s furthermore difficult to place more weight or emphasis on one achievement over another.
I rate him around 8-10, no argument from me if you leave him off. I think 7-12 is pretty fair and defendable
I prefer to leave off Marciano than Frazier, but soon there may be some changes that require Frazier to be pushed off as well. I think anywhere from like 8-12 is fine. Much higher than 8 and you have to agree that he was better than Holyfield, Foreman, Lewis, Holmes, Wlad, Tyson. You can put him over Tyson for resume's sake, but I don't. I put him above Liston, though.
He may not be top ten H2H anymore based on size but he’s top ten heavyweight P4P for damn sure. A great, great fighter.
Frazier was the first person to beat Buster Mathis Sr, Frazier beat Jerry Quarry twice, Frazier beat George Chuvalo, Frazier beat Ali, Frazier beat Joe Bugner, Frazier beat Oscar Bonavena twice. Frazier fought and beat some good to great fighters. Frazier style meant his career wasn't going to last long. Frazier only lost to 2 fighters in his career and they both were all time greats.
I mean, that's true. He's got the greatest scalp of all. Nobody beat a better version of Ali than he did.
crazy how ppl can post start a thread like this ... Frazier not an ATG or H2H beast ... really ? deserves a permanent ban in my book... do ppl even follow the sport? this must be NoNecks little brother here
Even still Ali put a beating on him, a testament to what Frazier was. He was a man facing an opponent larger than life, and the legend only grew with time. Frazier's gameness in the rematches is the stuff of legends.
Ya no **** right .. we watch a fighter like AJ turn his back on a fat ass lard ass like Ortiz .. and the ref gives him 20 ****ing seconds to recover and AJ quits .. ref waves it off ... its what the sport has evolved into to .... Hell Joe Frazier is what the sport is all about
Most absolutely. If I had to pick a heavyweight that epitomizes the sport itself, Frazier is that in manifest. He was everything a fighter believes they are. I equate his rematch with Foreman akin to Patterson's rematch against Liston. Both were clearly outmatched but nevertheless marched back into the ring to face the one man who had beaten them unlike anyone else ever would. Both had a never give up attitude that I think goes beyond what most people can even imagine. Patterson was a maniac to step back in the ring against Liston, much like Frazier was toward Foreman. But I would wager to say there are two fighters in the division that were more game than those two.
Their were very distinct differences between Patterson and Frazier's respective rematches. Patterson was still in his prime, while Frazier was shot, and legally blind at that point. Frazier also did much better and redeemed himself in his eyes. He extended Foreman and was the only victim post-Peralta in Foreman's first career to make it to the fifth round without having been dropped. Patterson did even worse against Liston in their 2nd bout, who was very possibly an alcoholic by that point.
Oh not to say they were totally identical, I just thought the spirit of their fights was emphasized by those two sets of fights. I did not know he was the first in Foreman's to make it to the fifth. Patterson did do very poorly, but again I was just comparing their drive and determination to rematch. all love for ya swag, missed getting your replies D:
Well he wasn't the first person in Foreman's first career to make it to the fifth. He was the first and only one after Peralta excluding Ali and Young. Thank you for the sentiments, I very much enjoy your posts as well.
Frazier is my favorite HW fighter, I started the thread as I noticed about half the posters left him out in recent threads of their top HW ATGs, and came across some lists on YouTube that excluded him from Top 12-15 and had fighters like both Klitschkos, Fury, Bowe, and Liston above him.
