Holmes went into the Norton fight with a torn left biceps.

Another factor is that Larry didn't seem to completely understand how to sit into his punches until right after the Norton fight. The difference in his punching power in the Evangelista fight is more than evident.

Holmes Norton was a great great fight but I don't consider it close. Tune out the audio and he won by 4 rds. I personally saw a shot Quarry in against Norton but that's just my opinion

It's true, the announcer seemed to be a Norton fan and did color his commentary with that.

Didn't seem to impair him. Or, more likely, it hurt like hell and he just ignored it. Given how quickly he usually seemed to recover from being hurt in the ring, fair guess that he had a high pain tolerance and the ability to just tune it out.

Well actually the doctor said it would be 100% at the beginning but would gradually deteriorate throughout the course of the fight.

Jerry knocked Ken Norton cold with one punch before he hit the floor at the main street gym in LA 1970.. The man could box and punch great left hook , he did the same to Manuel Ramos at 18 years old!

Quarry had the punch on just about everyone he ever fought, and he had alotta fights, and the guys who were reputed to punch harder like Foster, Lyle and Shavers he outslugged.

Joe Frazier had issues with the same Scrap Iron Johnson, not that he didn't win via decision in ten rounds, but he was hurt at one point in the 4th round.

Norton looks very good here. Excuses aside, his jab and blow out of Quarry is better than Frazier's.

Hello by the way. I have a detailed report on Greb ( Do I have your attention?) from news reads and testimonials of the fighters and ring officials that were in his matches. Things that most people here have not seen before and will illuminate his style, and vernacular antics in and out the ring. Now I'm not a Greb expert, but I have things reported right after the fight and during it, so my research is good enough. I will be pulling no punches just like my subject material!

What if Ken Norton on the night of March 24 1975 had fought the Jerry Quarry from June 23 1969, the night he fought Joe Frazier for the 5 State World Heavyweight Title? I believe that when Ken Norton fought Quarry in March of 1975 that Jerry was past his peak years, Norton took credit for beating an older fighter much the same way that Gerry Cooney took credit for beating an old washed up Ken Norton in 1981.

Good stoppage by the ref, I think Quarry was diminished at this point. He still was a dangerous opponent but his timing seemed off and he was a little sluggish. To beat Norton Jerry would have had to back Norton up and I don't think he could especially at this point .I agree about Norton's jab, it was very underrated

Norton would always have beaten Quarry. As has been said,a prime Norton was only in serious danger from master boxers - Ali and Holmes. Or murderous punchers - Foreman and Shavers.

I heard his KO over Norton was not a one time thing and it was somewhat of a frequent occurrence when they sparred. I’m not one who puts much into sparring sessions but gun to me head give me Quarry in a prime for prime scenario.

I’ve heard Jerry routinely got the better of Norton in California. Unless it’s fabrication. Anyway Quarry looks puffy and old in his fight with Norton. Imo

Stevie G. I remember when Thad Spencer proclaimed himself as a Master Boxer before his Feb 3 1968 WBA elimination bout against Jerry Quarry during the 1967 WBA Tournament, so much for the Master Boxer theory buddy, Quarry stopped Spencer by a TKO 12.

Quarry that knocked Mac Foster would kill Norton.
This was coke addict, broken arm and outshaped Quarry who faced Norton.
