New Liston interview, never seen before

I liked Sonny Liston dressed as Santa Claus, it was very festive of him.

 

Could you please expand on what you mean by that?

Perhaps if his reign wasn't so short-lived, the public would have had a more positive reception of him. All he wanted from his rise to the top was to be accepted regardless of his background.

 

Its comical to read the comments about Liston painting him as this poor misunderstood guy who was really kindhearted and peaceful and just wanted to be loved. This guy was a thug literally his entire life. The only thing misunderstood about him is the morons today who know nothing about him beyond the revisionist bull**** thats been spouted about him the last decade or two.

Or at least partly, then maybe I could visit sometime that's convenient for a cuppa and a jolly old chin wag about the balance?"

 

Exactly. Was he just a shy misunderstood guy when he was committing armed robbery, collecting money for the mob, keeping union members and scabs in line by breaking legs, beating up police officers for telling him to move his double parked car, or impersonating a police officer to accost a young woman who was coming home from working the graveyard shift at 3am before fleeing from police who happened upon the scene? Give me a break. I guess he was so shy that he needed booze to improve his self esteem resulting in all of those DUIs he got. He was just a shy, insecure manchild which is why he got caught carrying an illegal concealed firearm more than once, it was just for protection…. I wont even get into the fact that if you believe unproven stories he was murdered for dealing Heroin on the wrong turf and if not he just died of heroin overdose. Yeah, he was just big ole softie at heart. Totally misunderstood
