What about the purses for non-title catchweight fights between a welterweight and a middleweight who's dads didn't like each other 30 years ago?

That was about to do mental numbers. The guarantee that was on one side of that fight was less than the guarantee smith has.

Everything Hearn has done for British boxing is undone by his increasingly desperate attempts to pump AJ into people's homes. **** him

Also, as much as I liked his early work with Canelo, I think Canelo has become a bit too comfortable with Matchroom, and as a result is steering clear of meaningful fights with other promoters/networks

    How so?

He worked with Matchroom and then fought Plant without matchroom.

I’m struggling to think of the meaningful fights his currently not having due to working with matchroom?

I half agree with some points, but no I’m not saying we need to scrap ppv and go back to the days when backers would fund it (obviously that would be preferable like) just disagreeing with you that the best fights get made more now thanks to Hearn and ppv etc, again examples in the lightweight division point to that, or the British light heavyweight division we’re about half a dozen great fighters could have all been in with each other in great fights point against that for me.

But the issue over how to fund boxing going forward without ppv or a drug cartel is a big one going forward

Obviously hearn is only really responsible for his own fighters. Hes had them active using that ppv format. I m not really saying the very best fights get made because of the recent ppv,s. Although realistically its about the only way they,ll be made. What i m saying is the divisions are active and boxing is moving due to ppv. Big fights have always taking time to make....they probably always will. But for a long time challengers we,re avoiding each other. That wont change if you pull ppv. They,ll just go back to taking much longer to make them kind of fights and what we,re left with is pretty much a dead sport. Waiting months at a time waiting on a good fight of any kind.

Its not like i m saying....we must pay. The choice is pretty much up to the buyer or the boxing fans. Pay for it and get boxing moving and get a sport thats actually active or dont and that alternative is a slow moving sport that will just leave us the hardcores left watching more guys fighting other guys not on their level for longer....just holding on as a sport because people will always have interest in really big fights.

What i will say is greed is taking over and it has these past few years. The undercards have went downhill. The cards themselves have went downhill from imo something that was good value at one point. Its opened a can of worms because everyones jumping on the bandwagon now. Eddie can take a lot of blame granted but its never really been about eddie hearn. The truth and reality of it is he was just smart enough to know that to get boxing moving someone had to fund it.

Tbh i wont buy many ppv,s now. I dont think people should because the value has went downhill in recent years. Greed from fighters/desperation from promoters competing against other promoters is ruining it for everyone. The blame for that could be on eddie but the alternative is....a sport thats too slow moving that everyone but the hardcores loses interest in. We,re back to the sport we all complained about.

Personally i think we as fans should shun most of the ppv,s till they improve. Eddies left a void that frank and everyone else is now trying to fill and giving worse value which eddie himself was also giving the last few years. Boxers have now got the promoters over a barrel. Tbh eddie probably did cause it by handing out too much and by leaving a bit of a monopoly.

Essentially tho his format is the only one that will get boxing moving. Its just that fans should now reign it back imo...due to the value going downhill. It badly needs to improve.

Tyson fury v chisora needed a stacked card.

Liam smith v eubank and cattarel v taylor should be on the same card in a joint ppv. With a decent undercard.

But to cancel ppv will essentially just lesd us back to where boxing was....struggling badly.

Boxing is finished in its current form. There needs to be a mechanism to make these fighters contest with guys around there own ranking. All the fights we dream about should have happened already.

Canelo signed a one-fight deal with PBC to fight Plant for undisputed super middleweight glory. Meanwhile he recently signed a 3-fight deal with Matchroom which will most likely include a John Ryder fight. Canelo is clearly much more comfortable with Matchroom, even to the point where legacy-building fights like Benavidez or tune-up fights with much higher name value (Jermall) are being ignored
