What if Felix Tito Trinidad had remained at 154 lbs, instead of moving to 160 lbs ?

Well looking at the rankings i see Winky Wright, ODLH, Shane Mosley, and a few years after that guys like Quartey, Forrest, campaigning at 154. That is some serious competition, and i don't see Trinidad fighting all them without a loss or 2 along the way.

 

Imagine a rematch vs ODLH at 154.

 

It's been discussed on here, but ODLH apparently didn't want a rematch against Tito at this weight because he believed he would be too strong. I'm also not sure if Oscar could follow the same gameplan as he had in 99 - he seemed to not have the same movement at 54 as he had at Welter, and although i do think he was robbed in the first fight, i think something scared him in his first fight with Tito - especially in those late rounds. This is just anecdotal on my part though. It would have been interesting one way or another had it happened.

 

Hearns has wins over Duran and Benitez at 154. No way Trinidad passes him.

 

He probably wouldn’t have lost until he got old. He was incredible at 154.

 

I think Tito was killing himself to make weight at 147 for a number of years. He won the IBF title when he was only 20 and was 27 by the time he left the division. Had he made the move up to 154 by 96 or even 97, I think he’d have cleaned up at that point and probably would have moved to middleweight earlier.

There was decent competition in 2001/2002 for him still at light middle. Against the guys who’ve been mentioned as additional opponents, I’d make him favourite over Oscar and Quartey, a heavy favourite over Mosley and I think a fight with Wright would have been a lot different to that one he had after his comeback. Wright was probably most likely to cause him some issues but I don’t see Tito losing to him at that point.

 

Mayorga taking his left hook is all Tito means to me. God that was savage, cigar smoking bad man with hair the colour of blood.

You think Tito beats Wright at 154 ? Interesting, i have to say i don't agree with you on that. I think Wright is always poison for Tito with his stonewall defence and great jab. I don't really see Tito being able to physically get Wright out of his game even at 154. But i'm sure it would of been more competitive at 154.

 

I think Tito would have easily handled Wright at 154. Might even get a stoppage. The version of Tito that fought Winky all those years later didn't even look like the same fighter. His heart was no longer into it.

 

Yeah, I’m pretty comfortable with that prediction, D. Tricky fight for Tito but I don’t think their fight at 160 is really reflective of anything Trinidad did at 154. Probably his toughest fight at the weight, though.
