Pryor thought at one point that he was going to fight Duran at 150 lbs in a non-title bout in around 1981-82 or so, but the fight apparently fell through.

I'm sure Pryor would've liked to fight these guys, but he never got them. It happens, especially when you're in a different weight class.

It doesn't make Pryor any greater because big names elected to fight other guys (usually in their own weight class).

He easily one of my top ten favorites but I don't rate him that high as an ATG.

    50-75 maybe:think

People thinking Pryor would've done anything to Leonard is exactly why Hatton should've never bothered going to welterweight in the first place- as soon as he went up in weight and struggled, people forget everything at 140. Pryor didn't project well at 147 and his legacy is much better off by not attempting it. Not that's anything to be ashamed of; historically, most 140 lb champions stayed there because they didn't project well at 147.

I can't put him top 50. I don't rate Calzaghe that high, and he's accomplished more in my eyes.

He is 1 of my small gang of favourite fighters ever (the others r Roberto Duran, Roy Jones Jr, Alexis Arguello, Manny Pacquiao, and James Toney), but objectively IMO he is top 10 ever p4p on ability, and top 30 at p4p. The only reason his true p4p rating doesn't match his ability is that he never managed to get the big fights v Leonard and Hearns and Duran and Benitez to prove it. And resume is so so important when judging p4p. Anyway, truly incredible fighter, and amazing talent.

IMO, the greatest 140 fighter ever. I do believe he would've beaten Chavez or Whitaker at this weight, even though he is not as great as either man p4p.

    Aaron Pryor was an animal.
    His performance speaks for itself.
Nobody beats Aaron Pryor at 140.
    He is #1.

I would put him right around 40, based mostly off of skills and h2h value

Pryor talks about it in the post-fight interview.

Just a question, if you rank Pryor there. Where do you rank Pacquiao?

Very thin resume except for the Arguello wins (who was coming up in weight and didn't do anything of worth at 140 except lose by KO twice) and a 36 year old Cervantes.

Pryor did beat some quality jr. welterweights during his reign, like Gary Hinton, Dujuan Johnson, Sang Hyun Kim, and the aforementioned Lennox Blackmore, and of course he has victories over HOF's in Arguello and Cervantes. But Alexis and Antonio were, if not completely shot, well past their peak; and given that Pryor's fighting style and self-destructive lifestyle caused him to burn out fairly quickly, I can't really rate him any higher than number on my all-time 140lb list of fighters, and he barely breaks my top 50 at this point.

Hell of a fighter though, and in terms of historical match-ups, he'd be hell for anyone to face in the ring.

His career was not long enough like Leonard's or Hearns or Durans or Hagler. He fought Cervantes and Arguello, but to say because he beat Arguello at his more natural weight that means he is top 10 fighter. No way. Top 50. Not bad. But no way top 10.
