He is the face of boxing, that is not debatable. I don't feel like a lot of people think he is the goat but I think he is generally recognized as a top level fighter.

It's funny to me how much hate he gets when in fact he is almost taking the path everyone says they wish fighters would take. Since 2018 he has had as many fights as Spence and Crawford COMBINED, had more fights than even Inoue and hasn't taken on cab drivers either. He is the wealthiest active fighter and for him to be that active and against good competition should be praised.

I don't have a favorite fighter it just isn't my thing, but I do enjoy watching his fights. Based on what boxing has become now I think he will be remembered more favorably than he is talked about now. The rationale of fans these days is mind boggling. Like how TF is he getting flak for wanting to rematch Bivol? Yeah he was outboxed badly but the guy isn't afraid of a loss.

In my opinion a lot of it is people being too affected by what others say. In sports everyone LOVES the underdog... until the underdog wins then they get media attention and everyone hates them. Pacquiao is a good example of this. Before ODH and Cotto, Pac was just a guy who fought exciting fights and was a guy you could cheer for. After he beat those 2, hype went to the moon, his (ignorant) casual fansbase start popping off on every message board and created a legion of people who hated the guy, mostly due to his fanbase.

    - He didn't want to face GGG at 160 in 2016 when he weighed more than 170 in the ring and preferred to give him his WBC title
    - Lots of questionable cards or decisions in his favor (Mayweather, Lara, Trout, GGG I and II, Bivol).
    - Clen Scandal

More fighters would take the path he does if they had scorecards painfully rigged and PED's from papa Reynoso.

The corruption is the main reason he gets trashed by everyone imo, it has been way too obvious to doubt. In all my years watching boxing, I've never seen such favoritism on the score cards. It's so apparent that I'm kinda shocked there hasn't been some kind of investigation.

As far as the fighting goes, I think he deserves to be recognized as a top competitor of the era, perhaps even within the top ten P4P of our time, a damn good fighter with solid all-around skills, a good chin & decent power.

Selective matchmaking at higher weights (some said Bivol was a cherrypick, dodgy fight with half-dead Kovalev who outboxed him until the KO), no suggestion of him fighting the more dangerous fighters at higher weights, horrible scorecards in the first fight with GGG, drug allegations, that one card against Mayweather. I've gone from hating him, to kind of admiring him, to wanting to like him. But nothing he does makes me like him. He has good matchmaking - no bum would beat Callum Smith or Caleb Plant - but if he really wants to be great, why isn't he looking for fights with Benavidez or Beterbiev?

Yes on what he has achieved but feel he deserves it for the failed drug test

    No

He thinks he's special but the only thing special about him is the daycare he belongs in. The guy picked AJ over Fury.

Let's start with that I am not a Canelo hater. I admire his skills and work effort. That being said, your first sentence may not be accurate anymore. He certainly has been the face of boxing for half a decade but at this point I don't believe he is. I am not sure if anyone has replaced him yet, perhaps Fury, but at the moment I don't believe there is a true face of boxing.

As to your thread question, yes, he gets too much hate. What he doesn't get is enough love. So many Alvarez detractors seem oblivious or refuse to acknowledge his accomplishments and skills because of the negatives. To me there is really just one negative, the clenbuterol issue which is a big negative. I have no problem with the scorecards in his fights even though I don't think he beat Golovkin in either of the first two fights. The scorecards are not a negative on Canelo. The man has a scoring-friendly style. His punches are easy to see and until the last couple of fights he was a master of effective aggression.

Are you disputing he is the face of boxing? That doesn't mean he is the best (which he isn't) but who is a bigger star than Canelo? No one is even close.

The sport would definitely be a lot better if everyone was like him. Imagine if all the active boxers weren’t afraid of Ls, constantly challenged themselves, and happily fought 3 times a year. Boxing would probably be bigger than soccer.

He takes what he deserves and it isn't hate. This "hate"-thing became very worn out to defend yourself when people tell you the truth - that you're s*it, overrated, protected etc...
