That’s like saying Julio César Chávez had no business losing to someone like Frankie Randall. Or Ruben Olivares losing to Rafael Herrera twice. Just because a fighter loses to someone that has their number doesn’t automatically make them inferior. I’m basing this on overall achievements and the level of the fighters they’ve beaten throughout career.

To me it’s a close call and you can make a case for either fighters.

That's fine but answer this, was MAB ever seen as the best boxer in the sport at any point in his career as canelo was? Canelo has great achievements as well held belts from 154-175.

That’s all subjective though. Barrera was also in an era when guys like Roy Jones Jr, Óscar de la Hoya, Felix Trinidad, Lewis, etc. took the p4p spotlight so it doesn’t matter if Barrera was ever seen as the very best at any point in his career.

Barrera also has wins over 3 HOF fighters such as Morales (ATG), Tapia, Hamed.

Just saying you can definitely make an argument for Barrera but I can understand people rating Canelo higher.

Also take into consideration that being seen as the very best fighter at one point doesn’t automatically make you a greater fighter. Donald Curry was seen as the best fighter of 1985 for a brief moment when guys like Hagler, Hearns, Spinks, and Gomez were around. No one is gonna tell you that Curry is greater than those guys.

Like I said it’s all subjective and at the end of the day it’s about how you rate them based on their overall career.

Second one was a robbery & Jones was a dirty cheating fk .. but Barrera also stopped Kennedy McKinney who would go on to Fk Jones up btw.. MAB was also unlucky to not get the nod over JMM too because he probably deserved it.. bit like Oscar he was on the wrong end of some dodgy decisions and his career could have been even greater.. but losses dont seal this argument anyway .. Roberto Duran, Pac & Hagler lost to numerous people do you think Canelo is greater than them lol.. go watch Barreras trilogy with all-time great Morales and then tell me Canelo is greater .. Canelo got his ass schooled by triple G & was swinging at thin air against bums like Plant & BJS lmao.. all his best opponents are old men mid 30s + ffs

Canelo has the prettier record but Barrera was more sensational in the ring. Edging Morales in 3 fights and spanking Hamed are greater achievements than anything Saul has done who, while tremendously dedicated, basically has a load of draws against his best guys which made the whole 'p4p king' narrative hard to digest.

To try and arguably age-out Golovkin then still fail to clearly beat him is not the stuff of legends.

To be honest I am not certain Canelo was truly P4P number as he was reputed to be. Maybe that’s a bit harsh but I have always felt there is a difference between being P4P number 1 and being the most popular fighter. As you know I love Canelo but a P4P champion should not be outclassed and dominated the way he was by Floyd and BIvol. Yes both guys are extremely special but you know what I mean.

Feel that Barrera is the better fighter but Canelo has arguably achieved more

A hype job that won 15 world title fights, and beat various former world champions and world class contenders. I'm not a fan of the guy and hated his cocky persona, but he gets a bit undersold nowadays because of his loss to Barrera which i loved BTW.
