Why do people think Lennox Lewis had a bad chin?

He got KO'd twice, sure, but they were good punches, he took some beatings in his time, especially against Vitali were he survived some mega shots.

He didn't have the GOAT chin, but he still had a decent enough chin.

KTFO by two mediocre fighters in the early rounds. The only top level HW champion to have this happen to them.

Once you put Lewis on the canvas, the fight was over

    Fury would eat them punches

And Fury would never make such a horrible positional error like the first Rahman fight...

He had one of the best chins ever, and was only KO'd once.

Against McCall he was up at six, the fight was prematurely stopped, and the audience and announcing team were stunned, as was I watching on HBO.

Brits don’t have the best chins but have you seen Fury!? Yes he gets knocked down a lot but he’s never out.

 I think Fat Andy thought he'd killed him and I don't blame him either. His trainer must have some British ancestry for him to not only remain conscious after shipping that but to also remain vertical too.

His chin does sometimes get a bit undersold due to KO losses, Lewis did take solid punches off of Tua, Mason, Bruno, Briggs, Vitali, Mercer, etc who are all respectable punchers. You don't take flush punches vs those fighters if you have a weak chin.

That's a hard crisp shot as well man,

I bet the trainer in hindsight would have preferred that pitty pat mitt work that certain fighters do for that day.

It would've dropped an awful lot of actual pro HWs.

He was up at 6 but he then did stumble a little bit however he was able to put his hands up as instructed so should have been allowed to continue I think rather than being waved straight off.

Compare that to Fury who got about 20 seconds v Wilder.

He didn't "stumble" at all. He wobbled once. Stumble means you covered distance, and he didn't. The only distance he covered was walking towards the ref.

He clearly had his hands up.

    It was as shocking screwjob.

Here is is for those who are going to argue. Once he gets his footing, he moves towards the ref, puts his hands up, and is motionless for about half a second, after which the ref waves. All there on tape to immortalize:

Literally the same reason they always say it about Wlad - both were heavyweight champions of the world, meaning a heightened level of scrutiny that even most other peers holding world titles in boxing's other divisions aren't subjected to, and they both had a plurality of rather embarrassing stoppage defeats, both getting straight up posterized (to borrow a term from the basketball parlance of both their eras - yes, I'm an old fart) more than once by somewhat mediocre opposition, all things considered.

Obviously in both their cases there is ample proof that all that "glass chin" talk was greatly exaggerated. Had either of them had a truly bad one, given all the shots they ate from known medium to very hard punching heavyweights, they would have more like a dozen kayo losses each.

What is shared by The Lion and Dr. Steelhammer (other than owing an eternal debt to Emanuel Steward for refining them into ATG material) is a decidedly average chin, and spots of bad luck mixed with untimely over-confidence.
