Promoters want their fighters to keep their 0 these days which is extremely frustrating as it's so damaging to the sport. It's the equivalent of Manchester City only playing against the likes of Brentford and Bournemouth and never having to play any of the other top teams.

Its the fans that ultimately pay for these bull**** fights. Just stop paying for **** fights. Only pay for legit ones! Tell that to your local pubs, bars, clubs etc. Stop buying rubbish cards. Its ruining the sport.

The best reason/reasons is because you don't have too. Most people you see watching boxing now are casual fans. They walked Jake Paul fight MMA fighters and got so impressed and now think they are boxing experts. These people are impressed by anything. These are the same people who think being 6'5 makes you are super heavyweight when there have been tons of 6'5 plus boxers since the 70s and nobody called them super heavyweights. These are the same boxing fans who don't know the difference between being knocked down and being knocked out.

So since these people are don't know what they are talking about and are easily impressed all you need to do in boxing now is talk trash and try to get a certain fan base to follow you. For example Tyson Fury. Tyson Fury is slow, throws slapping arm punches and his best wins are against a faded Wladimir Klitschko and unskilled club fighter Deontay Wilder but his fan base are either Europeans living in Europe or Europeans living in the USA. Tyson Fury knows he doesn't have to try to fight better fighters as long as these people defend whatever he does.

They don't need to and too many fans don't give a damn over insisting certain fights be made. Ego has overtaken confidence in the entire sport.

Shortly: because it's easier to pretend you fight quality opponents while making big money. Why taking the risk of losing to a real top, when you can do the easy way? I don't like that way of thinking, but it's obvious that the sport suffers from, as it's in the head of many top athletes. Especially in martial arts, but in boxing in particular, the moment your losses change from 0 it's like you go back at the start of your career. Some decades ago, it wasn't about that 0, but things changed for the reasons I mention and others as well.

Yep back in boxing glory days, they didn't even consider a fighter being seasoned until he had a few losses under his belt.

It just hit me today, I think it’s happening in a lot of sports. I’m a big NBA fan and these days… star players don’t play back to back. They’re even talking about shortening the season. Michael Jordan played just about every game in his career. Times have changed.

I agree with several others on here. If a fighter can get several million from fighting a low ranked fighter whilst protecting their record they will. They can pad a record, make an obscene amount of money whilst not fighting in too many wars. While doing this they claim they want to fight the best but they are being avoided to protect their image as much as possible. I cannot see this changing with boxings current format.

Stop buying the fights where the headline is padding his record. Not rocket science!

There are unified champions at heavyweight, light heavyweight, super middleweight, middleweight, super welterweight, welterweight, lightweight and bantamweight.

(There was a unified super featherweight champion - Shakur Stevenson - but he just moved up.)

The only divisions where there aren't any unified champs are cruiserweight, super lightweight, featherweight and whatever nonsense goes on below bantamweight ... and none of them are because Americans won't fight each other.

Hell, Alimkhanuly literally says he won't unite against Golovkin because he's from Kazakhstan and in their culture that would be rude to call him out.

Which Americans won't fight each other because that would be rude?

Because after one loss everyone sees you as a bum e.g. broner after maidana & Joshua after ruiz,.

People suddenly forget all your accomplishments previously and just remember the loss, fans are too blame as much as anything

It's getting ridiculous. Fighters are more interested in social media and calling out Jake Paul than actually stepping in the ring these days.
