And a nice idiosyncratic one just outside the top 10: Jung Koo Chang v Tatsuo Tokashiki from 1984.

And if you’re wondering where Hagler-Hearns is, that’s how good the above fights are that it doesn’t make this list… although, to be fair, it could have and was obviously one of the most significant fights of the 80s.

There's so many amazing fights in the 80s i don't even know where to begin. I'll just make a list in each weightclass of fights you should watch.

Heavyweight = Holmes/Witherspoon, Holyfield/Dokes, Cooney/Holmes.

Cruiserweight = Holyfield/Qawi 1, Galindez/Burnett, L.Spinks/Burnett, Murphy/Mutti.

Light Heavyweight = Johnson/Emebe, Johnson/Stewart 1, Muhammad/Lopez 2, Qawi/Davis, Czyz/Williams 1.

Super Middleweight = Hearns/Leonard 2.

Middleweight = Barkley/Olajide, Barkley/Sims, Hearns/Barkley 1, Duran/Barkley, Sibson/Lee, Hearns/Hagler, Hagler/Mugabi, Fletcher/Green, Fletcher/Jackson.

Jr Middleweight = Hargrove/King, Hargrove/Medal, Mugabi/Green, Duran/Moore.

Larry Holmes-Mike Weaver 1 misses out by a few months, but it was an excellent fight. So was Holmes against Tim Witherspoon.

Matthew Saad Muhammad-Marvin Johnson 2 was also a few months before the 80s started, but I’ll mention it regardless. Great fight, just like their original fight, and I love that last round.

Michael Spinks had a very good fight with Yaqui López in 80’, a few months after Yaqui’s classic rematch with Saad. Dwight Qawi had a good rough fight with Eddie Davis (who gave Spinks his toughest fight at 175).

That late 70s to early 80s era at LHW really was something.

 

If you still have a few to see from my list and the other guys’ lists, you’re in for a treat.

The 80s, particularly the early 80s, is my favourite era in boxing.

 

Cornelius Boza Edwards-Robert Elizondo was a good scrap as well.

 

Off the top of my head here are my favs, I'm not super well versed in the 1980s and this is all after-the-fact viewing. Heavy on the four horsemen obviously.

Holyfield vs. Qawi
Qawi destroying Rossman is pretty interesting too. I think Qawi was one of the finest inside fighters ever.
