It does feel like the sport is fizzling out. We’re probably in for some bleak years until we get some sort of reset. I don’t have much faith in Boxxer being the answer as they seem to pursuing the short sighted PPV money grab model.

It's cringe as ****, but not only that they are degrading themselves terribly, imagine being a world champion boxer with all it takes and still wanting to be street and gangster. Its pathetic.

Lack of intelligence my friend. You know what's worse? White Londoners adopting that horrible tongue.

    Broken Britain.

Agree alot on this. Don't really care where any fighter is from and in UK hype up fighters far too much end up dislike them bellew Khan etc.
Also agree far too many fighters protected these days and unwilling take on best or scared to lose there zero. USA has same issue. Crawford, spence ,Ennis, vergil oriz

The 5 in the lightweight division

Your right. There’s also MMA to contend with. When I was younger (I’m 38) it was either boxing or karate and that was scarce so everyone played footie apart from the odd one or two that done martial arts.

Now it seems no kids are out playing anymore doing any type of sports. That will have an effect on all sport in the future as well as the standard of professionals.

My boy does BJJ 4 nights a week, I’m praying he’s the next Khabib as my pension fund is looking bleak!

i disagree about kids not playing sport. Football pitches are full every weekend. The kids these days are training 3 or 4 times a week. They don't play on the streets as much but are getting enough sport at school as well.

going to the original question we are struggling to produce the top boxers. When we do get good ones they seem to take forever to get moving and have long stints out. I thought buatsi was going to move through the levels. It will be a cash out by the time he gets a title fight.

We over achieved when hearn was on top with sky. We had numerous world champions it was a record at the time. Khan, brook, bellew and froch was doing well. We had fury and price on there way through.

It was an enjoyable time and you could see that decent fights could be made. Degale v groves looked like a rivalry that could build the sport. Froch v groves at Wembley was a huge event at the time.

I don't see anyone that are coming through that don't look fragile. I don't mean there chin. It's the mentality to fight the top men in the division and the amount of pull outs.

The only exception i can see is fury who fights anyone but we don't have anyone else. Im sure a lot will disagree but im not impressed with the amount of ppvs for mediocre fights.

depends on where you live I imagine. Pitches are busy on a weekend sure, but aside from that kids maybe train once a week. No kids are training 3-4 times a week. I coach a kids U-10 team, the team is in the lower Scottish division. Scottish Premier league kids train once a week, twice at a push.

My kids school has also banned footie and bringing football to schools. Maybe at high school it will change.

    They always have done.

The problem with them (unlike blacks) is that they are almost always never good enough to do anything at any decent level in the sport. I mean, there hasn't even ever been a single English-Pakistani who has even won a british title!!

Seen them packing out small hall shows for terrible fighters on undercards for a long time.

And there's crap fighters with Frank and Eddie right now like Aqib Fiaz and Muhammed Bilal Ali who are signed just purely cause they sell tickets to these desperate fans.

seems like the “good times” where when Eddie Hearn dominated the market and Uncle Frank was just struggling along with the likes of Turbo Terreh. should we put two and two together?

Power-tripping coaches take the fun out of it. I was walking my dog a bit ago on the field and there was a football team, couldn’t be older than 10 year olds, who were getting taught how to defend throw-ins with some old major type shouting where they should be standing. Just let them have a game ffs.

Totally disagree. Amir Khan was an English boxer of Pakistani origin who won a World Title and an Olympic silver medal.

You have very low standards if you think merely having just one single decent boxer ever( not elite, and who became a laughing stock) is enough of an answer. Merely one world champion ever in a sport of 17 weight divisions and 4 world champs per weight.

    the facts don't lie

    English pakistanis record in boxing
    Olympic gold medalists 0
    world championship gold medalists 0
    pro world champs 1
    european champs 0
    british champs 0

You can't get any worse than that. There's loads of them at the low level in this country and there has been for years but they never get anywhere. They almost always have feather fists and glass jaws. They are the worst boxers I've ever seen.

A lot of people didn't actually appreciate the work Hearn was doing when he was on Sky and instead, preferred to criticise and moan about his cards.

It's a mini slump, I'd say, which always happens. There will be a transition, as the next few fighters start to cement their names as big stars and the faded stars start to retire. Meanwhile, Warren is carrying the hope of British boxing.
