These are probably, IMO at least, the greatest p4p fighters of the 21st century so far. Yet I cannot help, but notice, the difference in risk taking, attitude, and badassery between Mayweather and the rest of them. For better or worse, Pac/Morales/Ward/Usyk never backed down. Not once. Refused to give yet a single inch. Did Ward wait for Froch and Kessler to age out? Nope. Did he back down from Kovalev? Nope. When Morales lost to Barrera in the 3rd fight, he signed to fight a prime Manny Pacquiao less than 4 months later. No fear whatsoever. And that was a prime Pacquiao. Mayweather who was a naturally bigger fighter than Morales ran from a prime Pac for 5 or 6 years. It's just a different level of intestinal fortitude and anybody who is paying attention can notice it. Did Pacquiao ever back down from Barrera/Marquez/Morales/Cotto/Hatton/Margarito and the lot? Nope, not once. Usyk is cut from the same cloth; except he travels all over the world fighting the best fighters on the planet all in their backyards. I can't be the only fan to notice this.
And the sky is blue, Usyk & Pacquiao are so alike though i can't say the same about the others you mentioned along side them.
I don't like Ward's style, but I try and and keep it fair, there wasn't a fighter on this Earth 175 on down who he wouldn't get in the ring with.
Hometown dirty fighter though who retired too soon. I dont feel he belongs in the same category as the rest despite hsving skills. If its a top 10 list then you could argue for him. Besides Pac and Floyd the third greatest ATG boxer of this century is bhop. Also cant put Morales there without Barrera and even Marquez imo. All of them are on about the same level. Especially Morales and MAB. Also can put Roman Gonzales, Inoue, Wlad and Donaire in there imo.
Well, I appreciate the post man, I only had 5 slots, had to take some of them out. Ward may have retired too soon, would have loved to see Beterbiev get a shot, but you can't fight them all. Eventually fighters have to retire.
Juan Manuel Marquez did more than Erik Morales since 2000 without a doubt.Morales wins over Junior Jones,Wayne Mccullough and Daniel Zaragoza were in the 90’s.I rate Marquez higher than Barrera and Morales overall too.
Ward is closer to Mayweather than Usk in this respect my book. Very rarely away from Oakland let alone out of US, always had A-side benefits in both refs and decisions. He also misspcnt much of his prime in that litigation with Rocnation and could have a better resume. I also note that he never stuck around for Bivol or (especially) Beterbiev, retiring at a relatively young 33
Mayweather gave up 10 lbs all the time, against world class competition, when his hands were broke. Mayweather was supposed to get KO'd by Corrales. We saw how that worked out. Canelo was supposed to work the body and stop him, still no. Delahoya, outjab him...still no. So.....no. Love Frochy, Kessy Ward etc all good dudes and they will all admit Floyd is the best. Maybe like money may? This content is protected @tinman
May would've lost that one. We've agreed on this one due to Oskee's chin and jab and combos. Oscar also wasn't a clincher. He'd often get out as quick as he could and get shots in.. Amateur move, and effective. What was Floyd supposed to do really?
Ward literally retired because a gauntlet of Eastern European killers was fast approaching — Gvzodyk, Bivol, and Beterbiev.
Floyd was a dwarf with defective genetics.. passed on more recently to his daughter .. and pound for pound is BS.. saying Froid is the best doesn't make it so.. there were dozens of top Fighters operating in his era who would have beaten the s*** out of him because he was a f****** midget .. HW , CWs & LHWs are the top dogs in boxing
Hes actually correct though. End of the day Floyd was a great p4p fighter, but still just a Welterweight, hell, I dont even think he was a natural Welterweight and would get stomped by any elite and prime WW.
