Press conference about to start at Lang Park where Justis Huni will be confirmed to have signed a multi year deal with Matchroom.
With Donaire-J. Moloney off the table for the WBC. The IBF ordering Rodriguez-Astroboy. Does that mean Jase will be aiming for the WBO title? Next in line would Reymart Gaballo if Astro and EM decide to go ahead with an IBF title bout. JM is very good chane of winning there but no means an easy feat.
Horrendously short sighted move by Fox Sports to make a monopoly with one promoter has bitten them on the arse already. Sky Sports did the same thing with Matchroom and that went even worse for them. There was plenty going on behind the scenes, but Fox were the masters of their own demise and now Huni has walked.
I think ultimately they don't really care about boxing unless there is a big cash cow with crossover appeal. I wouldn't be surprised if they keep trimming down the amount of cards they show till eventually they will just shut it down.
As I said… horrendously short sighted. I don’t agree they’ll trim them down. If anything they’ve committed to more shows than we’ve seen in the past and wanted everything under one umbrella. The sport doesn’t work like that and never has.
Does boxing really need TV to survive? Why not sell live streams to town hall shows? Have you seen the money some streamers make just in donations? Have a look at 'The Why Files' next time he does a live stream and look at the donations he gets just to answer questions! (for one of his weekly episodes, he was making $200 USD PER MINUTE, by my calculations, and it went on for a couple of hours!!) Boxing has always been out of ideas. Im not sure if it is because its mostly promoted by ex fighters lacking in brain cells... but there is a huge opportunity there, and no one does ****. .
Yeah, I can remember reading that it was something like a 50 fight deal with No Limit and they were looking at doing 16 shows this year.
fighters will need to start promoting themselves a lot more imo. align themselves with a football team for example to get better exposure. have to start thinking outside the box. make their own documentary's with their boxing journey, etc. etc. a lot of boxers have started their boxing life from rock bottom and have inspiring stories to tell, regardless of whether they go on to win a world title or not.
latest news is the scales were rigged, Wilson 2hrs before was just under the 130lb mark on same scale than offical weigh in just over 126lbs.... dodgy for the champ
This forum has been pretty good with the latest boxing news here in Australia, so I was wondering where the group believes the Tszyu fight will be held. Its 5 weeks to the event and a venue hasnt been announced yet, but maybe they'll wait till after the Wilson fight and they're back in Australia to make an announcement.
I think you are spot they will release everything after the Wilson fight. I kind the feel the longer they wait to announce the more likely it will be Tszyucastle. As they never seem to have a problem getting a healthy crowd there. Might be leaving it a bit late to fill up Qudos.
Was really impressed with Liam Wilsons performance today. I do feel sorry for him with the bull**** from the weigh ins to the 30 seconds Navarette got for the knockdown, but I suppose that's part and parcel of a world title fight in hostile territory. Liam can definitely hold his head up high and I can't wait to see him get another crack at a title.
Lewis has Walked out on Garside, turning down fights to go on a reality show nobody watches. It's a channel 10 show as well, if he thinks appearing on that woke AF channel will boost his name he has issues. https://www.news.com.au/sport/boxin...e/news-story/953c36c01ca14852fbcbe05f2a0f9c82
